Discuss: Why ‘Bets’ Are Not Cool At All

A student of a prestigious school in Noida is in a state of trauma after a video purportedly showing him being slapped by a classmate went viral online.

The clip uploaded on Snapchat has brought to fore not only the rising cases of bullying in schools but also, how easily students fall prey to bets and challenges.

It’s a trap
While children exchange notes on how to deal with this aggressive games trend, Vimhans psychologist, Dr Monalisa Palit says, “the  way to help students not participate in such immediate gratification bets is by awareness building. Teens’ cognitive development is a work in progress, as they are prone to high-risk behaviour.”

What to do
Psychiatrist Dr Jitendra Nagpal says that this trend is a result of “frustration, aggression and entertainment ” in teens who seek validation from their peers. Here’s his three-step advice:
  • Realise that risky behaviour has consequences that can scar you both physically and emotionally.
  • Spend leisure time with hobbies, not just on social media.
  • Communicate your highs and lows to your parents and siblings.

"Bets" shouldn''t be there between any child or in teens ,, coz if any other wins & the another fails then the second one have to pay or scarifies his or her belongings or even life due to some sort of demands by the winning person , in fact he or she can bully that person also ....

In the name of bets, even life could be sacrificed. What happiness does one get when they lose or win in a bet? Sacrificing your own belongings, our freindship, is it correct? Secondly, one loses seld confidence if they have lost a bet, this will have a harmful impact on their life. This is an extremely sensitive issue and has to be dealt with extreme care.
