Adya's Poem On Another Life

That childish smile which was so real,

Those good old days which felt ethereal;

Never felt them turn their backs,

Never saw myself starting to crack.

My shattered self now lines my wrist,

My mind was in a crooked twist;

I felt so empty yet so much,

The twisted deal was made as such.

The girl who once was never sad,

Who knew she wished her death so bad?

My depression took over me too fast,

The blade was at my neck at last.

But then, why did it not slice through?

My lust for death - did it not prove true?

I believe I found my fire again,

I looked up, smiled, and then began.

I wasn't going down without a fight,

Even when my dark self grasped me too tight.

Do I regret it? Oh, I do not.

I defeated my demons - who would've thought?

Today I smile the same childish smile,

Who knew you could live after you thought you died?

It reminds of an extract I read way back from the story "What Katy Did" by Susan Coolidge and another prose "The Last Leaf" by O. Henry as part of the curriculum. It is a very inspiring poem.Remarkable indeed.
