Embarrassed As I Can't Speak English

I have recently shifted my medium from a Bengali medium school to an English medium one. My English is not all that prim and proper like my peers. Nor is my pronounciation correct. Because of this very reason, I have become a laughing stock for my classmates. No one talks to me and I feel lonely but my parents don't understand and force me to go to school everyday. What should I do? How should I build confidence

It Is Important To Make Mistakes

So many celebrities have taken spoken English classes at a much advanced stages of their lives. You are much younger and could do a great job. Enrol yourself in a spoken English session and watch yourself speak. Not only will you speak in another language, your confidence will also perk up. Watch the television and see how news anchors and panelists speak. Visualise a similar scenario wherein you are a participant. Watch yourself talk in front of the mirror. You will be a great speaker in no time provided you don’t get scared to speak wrong initially. Don’t fear ridicule when you speak in class.

Nobody Is Perfect
First try to understand that nobody is perfect, everybody has certain flaws or defects, so accept this fact that nobody can master everything. If you feel that you do not have perfect pronunciation or are not very good at speaking english, first accept the fact and then try to improve on it. In the long run, what matters is how much efforts you put in certain task, rather than results achieved. So don't worry what people would think if you fail in certain task, just concentrate how to achieve that task. Ultimately practice of the same set of words would make anyone perfect.

Practise Daily For Better Results
Students should be encouraged to listen to correct pronunciations from their mentors. They can also watch videos to see how the correct lip movement is done. They can repeat these correct pronunciations and recite one word at a time – this will improve their pronunciation. Sometimes American and British pronunciations are different and children can choose which pronunciation they prefer. Pronunciations and spoken English can be improved with practice.

No One Can Master Language Over Night
‘Perfect’ is a relative term, there is no point in labelling pronunciations as ‘perfect’ or ‘imperfect.’ Mastering pronunciations is like language acquisition and it takes place over time. No one can master a language overnight. Pronunciations can be learnt through practice. Practising in front of the mirror every day for five minutes help children improve their self-esteem, confidence, pronunciation and diction. Most school-going children are inhibited by various factors – good teachers can help children be free of these inhibitions. Students should hear themselves speak and they can develop speaking skills, by reading out a para or talking to themselves

Don''t worry about others laughing at you. If they had changed from eng to bengali medium, could they have coped up. Persuade ur teachers to teach u english. Refer eng cartoon books as a beginner for simple eng and then get on to others. Don''t be embarassed. Next time they laugh at u, remember that they cannot speak bengali like u and no one is perfect. Ignore them,
