You Decide: Does India Need Pet Registration?

In a first, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation has come up with the online registration of pets. The pet-owners can get the registration done at a fee of Rs 500. The applicants can submit all details online, including self-attested papers, proof of residence and vaccination certificates. After registration, which would be valid for one financial year, a 'dog token' would be issued to the owners. Pets registration is not a law in India, the provision to register your pet is not even there. Still, pet registration is the need of the considering. Here’s how pet registration helps?

  • It will keep the abandoning of pets in check: Pet parents who abandon their pets can be traced once the pets are registered, so obviously excuses like my-kid-is-bored-of-the-dog or I-am-moving-abroad won’t work.
  • Easy tracking of sterilisation: It’s easy to track the sterilisation process of stray dogs, a lot of which are abandoned, once all the dogs are registered.
  • Bliss for missing pets: If your pet goes missing, the chances of it getting back with you increeases, if he is registered.
  • Better treatment: In case of medical emergency, it will be easier to treat your pet because the vaccination details are available.

Let’s See What You Have To Say?

"Yes, pet registration should be implemented all over the country."
"It will make it easier to locate the dog if lost. A proper database can be maintained to keep track of the strays and dogs in homes. Also, a lot of the illegal breeding will come to an end with the introduction of registering all pets."
Asavari Singh, class IX, Wisdom World School, Pune

"No stranger can claim your pet to be theirs"
In case a dog going missing, a registered dog is brought back to safety faster than a non-registered one. The pet gets more importance than a street dog wandering the roads. By identifying the license number, the check on the owner gets easy and the vulnerable pet gets back home earlier. This keeps a check on strangers claiming your pet as theirs, so getting your pet dog registered is a better option."
Srishti Basu, XI, Army Public School, Lucknow

"It will also help in curbing the menace of stray animals"
For all pet owners, the pet is an integral part of the family. Pet registration is a good and useful practice which should be implemented strictly, not only to give a specific identity to the particular pet but also ensure that it is vaccinated regularly. Plus, it will be extremely helpful in the painful and unfortunate situation of the pet being lost. Lastly, it will also help in curbing the menace of stray animals, will make it easy to fix the number of animals in an area.
Gaurvi Narang, class XI, Anand Niketan, Ahmedabad

"It assures us that no matter what happens, our pooches will remain safe because of their identities"
This should certainly be implemented all over the country. It's a positive thing which will help reduce the number of lost and stray pets. It's a great measure as it assures us that no matter what happens, our pooches will remain safe because of their identities. There will be better health care facilities along with a better living standard for them. It will encourage more houses to adopt homeless animals who deserve the love and warmth of a family. Once the number of stray animals goes down, there will be more hygiene in the cities. It's good to hear that such steps are being taken by our government in giving animals separate identities. This means that there will finally be a management that will look into providing a better lifestyle for the unattended animals because they deserve it.
Saloni Sahay, class XI, Sri Sri Academy, Kolkata

Pets have now become common everywhere and their registration is just as important. Getting your pet registered safeguards the pet. It ensures authenticity about who owns it. Implementing it all over would just ensure the same everywhere.
Hitanshi Thakkar, class IX, NHPS, Airoli, Navi Mumbai

"The well-bred pooches will not get mixed up with the strays"
It is really good to know that our pets will be well protected. It should be implemented across the country to help curb the stray dog menace. And the well-bred pooches will not get mixed up with the strays.

Yes,I think India needs pet registration.I think so because in a country like India where strays dogs move around everywhere.A lot of dogs are taken in dog van and vaccinated. If there is a registration for them they will get a strap also which will help them not getting taken away from their owners or rather friends. It will also help in locating them if lost.It also prevents artificial breeding. Finally,I think it should be implemented as i think that what''s wrong in not registering pets?

Yes Pet Registration should be implemented in all over India . The pets that are not registered can be treated animals rights activist responsibility. so animals rights activist can be made responsible for the vaccination and other need of these orphan animals as they know better about them . So there won''t be any issue of strays in our country . Even animals rights activist can open up an orphanage where these pets can be given proper care .

Registration of pooches will give an accurate count of pets dwelling in the nation. Pets are an important members for some households and it is very necessary for them to be registered to prevent illegal trafficking of pets, torture and safety. This can be implemented throughout the nation.

Being a dog owner requires all sorts of responsibility. One that is often overlooked is registering your dog with your city government and getting him licensed. According to my take,I feel there''s a need for this as when your dog goes missing, having him licensed drastically improves your chances of getting him back.Secondly, licensing lets people know that your dog is up to date on its rabies vaccinations.

Pet registration can play a crucial role in our country as there are some cruel pet owners who kill their pets and there are many cases of missing pets too. It can reduce abuse of animals and provide them safety because animals are our friends and we should do whatever possible to maintain their race.

Yes,pet registrations should be made compulsory. So that it will ensure the safety of pets and all the people will love pets and start taking good care of them.Even the pets feel safe after they come to good and kind owner.

On the positive side,it is a good move as it shall help the people to identify their pets and ensure that the animal shall be safe with the owner whereas i think the cost should be cut down to at least 100 Rs. since I am not so sure that dog owners will spend 500 Rs. for just registering the dog and as for stray dogs I am very sure that people won''t spend money for those dogs
