Why We Still Can't Stop Admiring Harry Potter?

Students tell us why magic continues...

Potterheads are rejoicing all over the world now that 'Harry Potter and The Cursed Child', the book based on the script of the play by the same name will be released on July 31, 2016.  Which is why it's only apt that we ask what is it about J K Rowling's Potter world that the magic hasn't faded one bit, nine years after the release on 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' (2007). Students share their views on why 'The Boy Who Lived' continues to fascinate them though there are a few who are not quite as chuffed.

Potterheads tell us why there will only one Potter

"The elements that made Harry Potter a hero weren't his magical traits but his human ones. He overcame all his adversaries not because of some intangible magic power, but because he showed courage when necessary and had friends who supported him no matter what. It's something all of us can relate to."
Shria Seth, class XI, Venkateshwar Global School, Delhi

"Harry Potter taught me that it is okay to be scared and fail sometimes. What matters is the choices we make, to be humble and to accept that life goes on despite adversities. It taught me to question everything as everything is not what it seems. He taught me to be firm about what I believe in. Even when Harry's closest friends doubted him, he continued on his path. It is because of Harry, and the entire book series that I know that love is the ultimate power and those who undermine its value regret it later."

Mridula Subramanyam, Class X, Apeejay School Nerul.

One reason for children considering Harry their idol is the bravery with which he faces all his difficulties even if there is no one to support him. It gives a teaching to never give up and to believe that there is hope even in the most tragic times. Also his presence of mind, kindness, humanity, humbleness in his personality makes him the favorite character of everyone, including me.
Rashmi Deshpande class IX, Narayana Vidyalam

"I am a big time Potter fan having finished the series two months back. I would love if there was more and more of Potter because J K Rowling writes so well that it all seems 'real'. I am really excited to get the 'Cursed Child' book. The Potter series is different from the usual topics on which authors write. It is fantasy but something magical in it keeps you going. I would love to read more books not only about the next generation that is of Albus Potter, but also of the previous generation — the childhood of Lily and James Potter and so many others."
Aishwarya Iyer, class VIII, Deens Academy, Bengaluru

"Harry Potter's character has taught me to remain on the right path regardless of the difficulties that one may face in life. His character has inspired me to never lose hope or my confidence and to keep chasing what I desire. Being loyal towards friends is another thing that I have learnt from Potter."
Sohini Ganguly, class X, DAV Public School, Nerul, Navi Mumbai

"I will surely be the first in the line for the book and the play because I was very sad when the series ended!"
Upasana Behera, class IX, DPS Newtown, Kolkata

"Harry lost his parents but he found a new family. I admire Harry because he never failed to risk his life for the sake of his friends, and did not doubt his friendships. Moreover, he was unfailingly compassionate and kind."
Shubhanshi Gaur, class XII, St Xavier's Senior Seconary School, Sector-44/c Chandigarh

Did you know: Over 450 million Potter books have been sold worldwide making it the best selling book series in history which has been translated into seventy-three languages.

No More Potter

"I was happy to say goodbye to the Potter series because it's okay if a good thing come to an end (like the saying). I think the seven books series was a complete, wholesome story where all the loose ends had been tied up. I don't think the series needs another addition especially because there are details from the Potter's world being explored. Case in point Rowling's 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' which releases later this year."
Sakshi Nebhani, class XII, CPS-KR, Nagpur

"I feel that J K Rowling should stop extending the Potter series like Hindi soap operas that are never ending and eventually lose the interest of the audience. less is more."
Nipun B Nair, class IX, National Public School, Yeshwanthpur, Bengaluru

"Harry Potter has been a huge obsession for all the children of this era. We kids do love reading books like Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Hunger Games, etc. But I am not too happy! As we have been reading and seeing the same Harry, Hermione and Dumbledore for quiet a long time now! It felt sad to say goodbye to them earlier but there is a lot more to explore in the world."
Archisha Ghosh, class  VIII, Vidya Valley School, Pune

"I for one am not a Harry Potter fan. It was a good thing when the series ended, bringing it back with a different plot line may just put off the fans."
Krteyu Pillai, class VIII, Goldcrest High, Vashi, Navi Mumbai
