They Used Scholarship Money To Build Toilet

Memoona And Aamir Saved The Scholarship Money They Received As Minority Community Student

They could have spent the money on movies, burgers or ice-cream. But Memoona Khan, 16, and her brother Aamir Khan, 14, pooled in every penny they could lay their hands on to build a toilet for a girls' school in Narsingpur district of Madhya Pradesh.

Memoona of class XI and Aamir of class X saved from the scholarship money they received as "minority community" students.

To that they added Rs 2,000 for the toilet at Maharani Laxmi Bai Girls Higher Secondary School, Narsingpur.

"The school had only one toilet. I'd feel bad seeing students standing in a queue. We contributed a total of Rs 2,000. Thus we had around Rs 10,000 in total. Seeing our enthusiasm, our father also pitched in with Rs 14,500 for the toilet."

This is not the first time Memoona has taken it upon himself to get something done for her school. In 2011, she'd written to CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan, calling him "Mamaji", to request for a road to be built to her school.

Firstly i would like to congratulate Memoona and Aam . I am from Mumbai and I have seen many children from Govt and municipal schools who are brilliant in studies but loosing marks because the concept is not clear . I would like to spend my holidays for them to teach the basic concepts for the children in lower classes and the scholarship if I an getting one , would like to spend for some aid or resource which can help the higher class children to make their studies interesting and clear .

It is obvious that I would not pool out the entire money for community work(I am too selfish). But I will give a considerable amount to a NGO or an orphanage. The remaining money I would use for my passion of books, some modern gadgets and will also deposit in my bank account for future savings.

If I received scholarship money, I would use it to help build a shelter for stray dogs where they will get access to unlimited water, sufficient food and protection from dangers of all sorts.

Well before reading this article I might have spent the money on me but after going through the great work done by these students even I would like to spend it on the needy. I will prefer to take street children to a good restaurant for meal.

I really like Memoona and Aamir''s idea of not using the money on anything else. Using your scholarship money to make your school toilet better is absolutely a brilliant idea. I can''t believe that someone actually came up with the idea of it.
