The Literary Girls We Want In Our Girl Squad

Literature through the ages has been filled with so many amazing female role models. Now, if you only could actually get one of these to come be a part of your girl gang in the real world. What would you do?  Hang at Starbucks post school, click some selfies, talk about books or just talk about life with them.

Hermione Granger: It would be lovely to have a smart, dependable friend who can also help you with all the crazy school projects you need to finish by midnight.

Scout Jean Louise Finch: Because Scott is that one friend who is always up for an adventure. With her around, you will always have a buddy to hop in the car and zip off to Goa over the weekend. The more unplanned the adventure, the more fun you will have with her.

Becky Bloomwood: A friend who has a walk-in closet and a big heart! Never ever will your days be un-stylish. Becky is our go-to girl for every impossible fashion emergency.

Luna Lovegood: Another gem from the Potter universe, it would be amazing to have Luna around just for the conversations. She'll always have something new, out of the box to add to the otherwise mundane conversations.

Jo March: You can count on Jo (and her sisters) to be your 2 AM friends.

Elizabeth Bennet: Every girl squad is incomplete without that one girl who doesn't care what society thinks. Plus, she will tell you the truth whether you want to hear it or not.

Isabella Thorpe: The one person who will always have time to go out and shop or just be with you. (tnn)

Our wish list has Hermione, Luna, Scout, Jo, Elizabeth and Becky because... well they are awesome! But if you could only choose one, who would it be?

Our youth reporters add some of their own choices here. Tell us yours in the comments section

I would wish to include Katniss Everdeen from 'The Hunger Games' in the squad. There should be somebody in the squad like Katniss who can take control of situations that need to be resolved. Katniss is a survivor, independent and it would be great to have her as a part of the squad. I love characters  like Katniss, they are truly inspiring.

Sohini Ganguly, class X, DAV Public School, Nerul, Navi Mumbai

I have always loved Matilda and her idea of overcoming any kind of unfavourable conditions by reading her books.. And moreover, she taught herself  telekenesis and handling people in a very clever way which my girls squad is working on. Hence, I would love to include Matilda in my female squad.

Ayantika Dutta, class IX, Jewish Girls' School, Kolkata

I would love to have Hermione Granger in my squad for the simple reason that she is brilliant and could help me in my studies.I also know she would be a very true and loyal friend. Similarly, I wouldn't mind having Ginny Weasley on my team either as she is very practical and calm and keeps her head in tough situations.

Sharmila Pentapalli, class IX, Pragathi Central School, Hyderabad

I would like to include Cass from the book 'This isn't what it looks like' by Pseudonymous Bosch in my girl squad. Because she is very witty and firm on her decisions and impulsive too. In the book, she travels in the past unknowingly and then solves mysteries of the alien era to come back to the present. She faces many obstacles but overcomes them by using her intelligence.

Sukriti Mehrotra, class IX, GG International school, Pune

I feel that ' Warriors Don’t Cry' is one of the most encouraging works I have ever come across. The story is told by a teenager Melba Pattillo. It’s story of  black kid, Melba who recalls bad times viz when acid was thrown on her face, lost her friends, and the feeling what was actually to be the first black kid to integrate the Arkanas school system. I loved the part when she faces numerous tortures with utter strength and patience and still leads her life with confidence.
Osheen Rajpal, class X, CDS-KR, Nagpur

I would love for Elizabeth Bennet, from Pride and Prejudice, to be on my squad. This is because in her time, she was smarter than the usual women and could think for herself. She was completely different from the usual women characters, and even her sisters at that time.
Malini Chidambaram, class XII, Bishop Cotton Girls School, Bengaluru

I would definitely choose Hermione Granger to be added to my squad. I am a fan of Harry Potter and who wouldn't want this bad-to-the-bone daredevil in their gang who would take up bullies for their friends and help you with crazy midnight presentations and incantations.

Nihal Jani, class IX, Sakar School, Ahmedabad

I would like to have Daenerys Targaryen from 'A Song of Ice and Fire'. She is ferocious when it comes to the matter of her people and cares for them like her own children. She never takes a rash decision and knows what to do when its time. But she is equally emotional to the things that matter. She is a role model and if I could get a chance, she is surely in my team.

Gayatri B, class XI, KV Pattom, Thiruvananthapuram
