The Difference Between Kathi Roll And Frankie

Over the years, both kathi roll and frankie have become so popular throughout the world that many people consider them to be one and the same thing. You will be surprised to know that there is a slight difference between the two dishes which are based on sauces, filling, style of cooking and seasoning used. Read to find out.

Frankies are from Mumbai while Kathi roll belongs to Calcutta
While Frankie is said to have originated in Mumbai, Kathi roll has its roots in Calcutta

Plain roti versus egg-layered roti
Plain roti or parantha like flatbread is used as a wrap for a kathi roll, whereas Frankie contains an omelette-like layer on the inside.

Both are prepared with different fillings
Kathi roll has a stuffing of assorted veggies, cheese, meat, paneer, soya and a melange of spices, on the other hand frankie has a cutlet which is made of veggies, cottage cheese and is seasoned with a combination of sauces.

Both are wrapped differently
Kathi rolls are packed in paper whereas frankies are rolled in foil. Tearing off paper after every bite makes kathi roll difficult to eat on the other hand sliding down the plastic wrapping as in the case of a frankie is easy.
