Tattoo Inks May Harm Immune System

Getting a permanent tattoo can cause toxic nanoparticles to travel inside the body, leading to chronic enlargement of the lymph nodes — an important part of our immune system, a study has warned

Toxic impurities that make up the ink in tattoos can travel inside the body in the form of nanoparticles and affect the lymph nodes, researchers said.

Little is known about the potential impurities in the colour mixture applied to the skin. Most tattoo inks contain organic pigments, but also include preservatives and contaminants like nickel, chromium, manganese or cobalt.

Besides carbon black, the second most common ingredient used in tattoo inks is titanium dioxide (TiO2), a white pigment usually applied to create certain shades when mixed with colorant, researchers said.

TiO2 is also commonly used in food additives, sunscreens and paints. Delayed healing, along with skin elevation and itching, are often associated with white tattoos, and by consequence with the use of TiO2.

We rarely stop and think about the science of tattoos. In fact, some people don''t even stop and think before getting tattooed. We kind of know the reason they last forever because the ink goes so deep into your skin that it can never wash off . It turns out your ethereal watercolored bird is kind of like an infection and the reason it''s permanent is because your body keeps on fighting it forever. Tattoo needles punch through the outer layer of skin, and drive the ink into the dermis .

Well, I have heard so bad about these tattoos. The biggest reason I will never get them done is that you can''t donate blood after that. Such tattoos are no style statement but design havoc. Staying away from these will protect from cancerous cells. Well, it has been commenly noticed that foreigners suffer from chronic diseases more than Indians. This is because they are more into such things. It''s just a waste of time and yeilds nothing infact you lose your naturalness.

I feel that tattoos are a utter nonsense and serve no purpose .They are seen as style statements amongst todays younger generation but can harm our body in many wasys

Ronit, I agree that these tattoes are harmful for the body but you cannot call it harmful some people like doing it and it is their choice. I do not think that this article true because many celebrities like Virat Kohli, Messi etc have tattoes on their hand and all over their body, if this is said to be harmful then something would have happened to them till now but it has not.
