Super Mario Bros Turns 31

One of the most popular games of all time, Super Mario Bros turned 32 on September 13. The game has become an iconic cultural symbol over the years. Here are few things about it...

1 Super Mario Bros, the successor to the 1983 arcade title Mario Bros, was designed by Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka

2 It was initially launched in Japan, before eventually crossing the seas to the American version called the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES).

3 Mario first appeared in Donkey Kong (1981) as ‘Jumpman’, and later in his current form in Mario Bros (1983), but it was Super Mario Bros that propelled the Italian plumber to stardom.
4 The game has since sold 40.24 million copies, making it one of the best-selling games of all time.

5 Super Mario Bros and its sequels inspired products in various media, such as the 1986 anime film ‘Super Mario Bros: The Great Mission to Rescue Princess Peach!’; the 1989 American-animated series, ‘The Super Mario Bros Super Show!’; and the 1993 live action film ‘Super Mario Bros’, which stars Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo as Mario and Luigi, respectively.
