Stereotypes That All Arts Students Are Tired Of Hearing

That time of the year is about to come when students be struggling with what stream they should opt for in class 11th. From asking their seniors to listening to their parents, the life-defining decision needs to made right now. This is what they think.

However, taking up arts is what people think is the last option and not a priority. Since ages, people's beliefs about humanities have not changed in fact continued to grow and now have become stereotypes.

1. You scored so well, why did you end up taking up arts?

Ah, excuse me, because I am interested in it. Is it not a good reason for you? Assuming arts would be the last option is plain annoying.

2. I am sure it must be fun to not study at all and still get good marks.

Like really? Just like everyone else, we study what we are supposed to, and that is how we get good marks.

3. How did your parents allow you to take up arts anyway?

Because my parents do not judge my choices like you. And it is my decision to study whatever I want. My parents are happy to let me decide my future.

4. How casual are you about your career?

Why do we feel that only science or commerce students are serious about their careers?

5. Oh, so you always knew you wanted to be a teacher?

There are a lot of other professions open to humanities students, people! It’s clearly a task for people to understand our career options. If they get to know, it might baffle them that some of those options can make me earn more than your precious engineers.

6. What career of options do you have really?

Psychologist, therapist, sociologist, historian, librarian, humanist, economist, musician, artist and so much more, the list is endless FYI.

7. Oh, do you like paint and all? Show me your work no?

Yeah, let me paint your face with all the misinformation you carry.

8. You must be one of those who doesn’t want money in life.

What did that come from? You probably don’t know how does it feel to have a lucrative and a satisfied life at the same time.

Can You Add To The List?

I''m glad after reading this post. Oh crap! Stereotypes are so harmful. I''m struggling to make my kin allow me to pursue arts and something related to it. Even my mom accepts my wish, but this society! They still instill me to do medicine, which I''m not interested in anymore. People must change their thought.

9. Beta, study hard in 10th otherwise you''ll be stuck with arts. Ans: Firstly, it is not being ''stuck with'' arts. Even those students who are given arts stream get it by working hard. Secondly, what if I WANT TO take up the stream? It is a misconception that arts is a lowly stream and people often undermine its importance.

10. No future in arts dear, do you want to risk your life with such a meagre income or maybe none at all. Why do you think i have no future,i do and my income i will have but why do you care about it, i wont feed YOU with my income, because it will be toxic to you, its earned by a student of arts.
