Presentation Etiquette Techniques

Meaty content…check…sound technical skills…check…done. Now what? You need more than these essentials to give a great presentation. That special ingredient for winning the audience applause is ‘correct etiquette’. Tap into these 5 pointers and make the right impression.

1. Channel nervousness into productivity

Public speaking is no easy job and getting nervous is likely. The trick is to use this nervous energy to motivate yourself: revise key points, rehearse, drink some water and go – conquer the stage.

2. Make eye contact with the audience

Look at your audience (at least, off and on) while talking, else you will fail to connect to them. A speaker who just reads slides also comes across as boring.

3. Don’t waste time

Those attending your presentation are doing it for a purpose. So, don’t waste time by cracking too many jokes or flaunting flair.

4. Keep jingling items away

Empty your pockets of items with distracting sounds such as coins, keys; and keep your phone on silent.

5. Handle audience questions with courtesy

During the question-answer session, first repeat the question asked for the audience and then answer it. Also, thank the person who has asked the question.

Well, presenting something in front of a crowd of people is not a child''s play. I am an orator and I feel that even if one gets to speak a few lines about something on the mike then it''s his/her moral responsibility to say it in the best way he/she can.
