Pick These Foods To Boost Your Mood

Happiness is a state of mind! Sure. But with increasing levels of pollution and stress it is about time you took reins in your hands. We help you understand what food items you can include in your diet to activate your happy hormones and tackle with everyday mood swings.  But first...

What are Happy Hormones?

Our body has a self-mechanism to keep us excited and energetic i.e. happy hormones— Dopamine, Serotonin, Oxytocin, Endorphins, Estrogen and Progesterone. For instance, Dopamine is like a reward hormone which is released when you are praised or are happy due to excellent performance at school or winning a debate competition.

Estrogen and Progesterone go hand in hand to make you feel better if you are irritated or anxious.  Moderate exercise and yoga and voila! You are back on track. And if you can include running, swimming in your routine your body will release Endorphins, the hormone responsible for good self-esteem. Endorphins also make you sleep like a baby as they have a calming effect.

Oxytocin or the ‘love hormone’ activates when you spend time with your loved ones.

Trigger those happy hormones with…

Mussels: contain loads of elements such as zinc and iodine that releases and stabilizes happy hormones. Spinach is known to release mood stimulants. Asparagus releases serotonin and controls your general wellbeing and emotions. Eggs contain tryptophan which are happy hormone boosters. Dark chocolate which is full of anti- oxidants and rich in vitamins and minerals also helps fighting those blues.

Regulate your mood

Low serotonin levels contribute to depression, anxiety, sleep disturbances, increased sensitivity to pain, emotional volatility and carbohydrate cravings. Broccoli, potatoes, whole grains, apples, bananas, tomatoes, lettuce, citrus fruits, potatoes, salmon, tuna, yogurt and walnut are a good source to up your serotonin levels.

Strengthen the immunity Centre

Carotenoids and Vitamin A, C and E, Zinc and essential fatty acids boost our immune system.  Source? You need super foods like green leafy vegetables, tomatoes, bell peppers, strawberries.  Nuts and seeds like Sesame and pumpkin provide zinc while flaxseeds, olive oil and avocado are essential fatty acids.

Sorry to differ but oxytocin , progesterone , and oestrogen deal with something else . I don''t think so that it deals with mood . Oestrogen deals with the secretion of ovum , Progesterone in the thickness of endometrium and oxytocin in contraction and expansion of uterus .
