Online Shopping Is Menace; Youth Reporters

You are surfing for your project work on the internet and suddenly someone pings you about the latest fashion site on social media. You think that there’s no harm in browsing for a new wardrobe essentials and some cool smartphone accessories or even the latest bestsellers. After spending over an hour, you have around 10 items in your cart while you start pursuading your parents to buy-buy with o second thoughts.

Does this sound like you? With numerous ecommerce portals vying for attention, how many hours have each of us whiled away engaging in our favorite past time, online shopping? There are many things that go on in our minds before we decide to click on the buy button! Here is a list.

To Buy Or Not To

The quintessential question that bugs us when we are at the chechout window - Do we really need these things that we are buying? Is it really worth the many bucks? Should I not browse for something better?

Can I Really Trust The Product Or Should I See Retail Outlets

The other perennial worry that visits us when we are almost done with the payment is - whether the product is worth it. If we can find better stuff at retail outlets

Is The Size Going To Fit?

After all, there is no virtual trial room yet which will allow you to "try" out the fitting before you decide on the purchase. So, there is that little scope for doubt - is this going to fit me? Will it look good on me?

Youth Reporters Say They Have Not Been On A Buying Spree Yet

It is very tempting and a very addictive passtime. But thankfully I have maintained my distance from this menace. The only things I have permission to browse are books and project essentials. Sometimes I have even bought mobile accessories on the net. I have had a decent experience with all the shopping but have heard horror stories from my friends who have bought mobiles and electronics on the web.

Akash Chowdhury, class IX, Gyan Bhati School

I have had a mixed experience with online shopping. The clothes don't fit most of the times (evn when there is a size chart) and the quality is suspect. It's very difficult to keep away from this addiction. I remember one time when I was window surfing till 2 am! I bought nothing but my shopping cart had some 37 items!

Nashika Sharma, class XII, Bal Bharati School, Noida

Initially I was very apprehensive about buying stuff online. I would even laugh at some of my friends who indulged in buying on the web. But last year I bought some books and it was delivered to me in perfect condition in just a day! I didn't have to pay anything extra for this quick service. Since then I have been hooked to the net. I also buy household items for my mother over the net. We spend at least 1 hour daily browsing for the stuff available.

Navya Khanna, class X, Amity International

I have unlimited internet access at home but my parents have strict guidelines about me buying stuff online. I use my father's card to sometimes buy stationary and gifts for others. Although I don't buy much; there is no stopping me from browsing. I can spend 5 hours on the net looking at what I would love to buy.

Sheetal Singh, class XII, DPS International, Pune

Parents Say They Allow Their Kids To Choose Stuff But Never Buy Alone

My son has been pestering me to buy for him the latest edition of Wimpy's kids. It's a good thing to encourage reading habit but I don't want him to get addicted to the net. I have refused that he cannot buy anything from an online database till he is 18.

Roma Thapar, Parent of a 12 year old boy

I am in two minds - first, I am happy that through online shopping we are actually saving a lot of time driving to the malls and doing forced purchases. My children are very happy about choosing the products online. Then I go through them and the final decision lies with me. We have shopped for clothes and shoes on the net and the experience has been good so far.

Pooja Dwivedi, mother of two children

Most of the time when I go to any shopping complexes I just wail away my time in window shopping. I just look at many things but I don''t buy any of them.

There is no harm buying books or other secondary items, but as far as electronics concern then it is not recommended to buy electronic items online. Besides this the cookies on the website often show products which we don''t when, but when we receive these cookies again and again, we might change our mind and end up buying things which we don''t want.

According to me there are many limitations of shopping online.sometimes we get the delayed services and no guarantee is provided.and there''s also a risk of money transaction. But it also has some positive impacts like we get the service 24 * 7, we can get the goods while sitting at home . So some people find it useful and some not.

I mostly spend 1 hour on the internet, but its for developing my passion.I feel internet shopping is a complete waste, according to my experiences. You can never believe the pictures and the product because you always get something completely different from what is shown in the website.

I don''t often spend time window browsing because I didn''t had nice experience while doing online shopping because the quality was exactly opposite of what was mentioned in the description box but I do end up buying some digital products.

Online shopping is good if we search only for the products we need. We can save money and time . But sometimes we search for something and ends up in buying something else. We should stick to our need than passion for shopping.

Harini MS NAGARJUNA VIDYANIKETAN

I spend quite some time browsing the Internet, but very little or even no time on shopping websites. Unless i need to pick a cover for my phone or pick a dress for any occasion, I don''t really check into online shopping sites. Until today, I think I''ve checked out online shopping sites only some 5-6 times.

I browse online shopping websites when I want to buy any presents for my family and friends birthdays. Especially for those who live quite far from us. I find online shopping very effective.

Every coin has two sides. Online shopping is no exception. There are several benefits of making online purchases, like a huge variety, saving time etc. But I think that we need some time to accept online shopping as a feasible method for shopping. A lot of people do not trust these sites and feel that the quality might be compromised or they wouldn''t even get the product, and frankly there have been such cases. But more often than not online shopping proves to be a boon.

JIYA TOMAR B G S NATIONAL PUBLIC SCHOOL

Candidly, I would admit that I don''t really go online shopping on my own as though, but yes my mom and I do go online shopping together often, in fact, quite a lot I would say. I think like everything else online goods too have several highs and lows as well. Its highs include fast delivery, relatively lower rates etc. and lows like comparatively inferior quality at times and so on. But overall I think that it is an efficient way of shopping that also saves fuel and energy.

Online shopping is some time good but buying electronics its bit risky and a more useful thing on online shopping is you would get a vairety of products

I only open e-commerce websites when I am in dire need for something or if there is a good discount on some product. Once I open it I am confined to that product. I usually purchase electronics, books and random accessories.

DIWANSHI SHETIJA BHARTI PUBLIC SCHOOL (SWASTHYA VHR)

I hardly spend time on buying products online.Things like clothes, shoes are not worth of purchasing as sizes, quality of items seldom match. The best thing to is to procure various books/novels as some of them are not present at bookstores.

Anything is excess is harmful. I hardly do online shopping. It affects you mentally by creating shaping one''s mind and creating new needs and physically as one sits on the bed or on a couch and doesn''t exercise at all.

I mostly spend most of the time in window browsing. It''s good if we do online shopping

Harini.V Bethel Mat Hr Sec School

Online shopping is just a newbie. So, we all are eager about it. But it can never replace the literal way of shopping. We see, touch, experience the quality and buy the products when we go to a shop. So we gain confidence to buy them. This can''t be gained from online shopping. It makes us lazy too.

Reem Ali MADINA (SUPER) PUBLIC SCHOOL

I usually buy books online. Well.... I always buy books through online shopping and at times when I''m not in the mood to go to the market I order some casual clothes.

Spending lot of time in viewing online products will give more information about them and also tends the viewers to buy them. I seldom buy things through online shopping.

Uttakarsh Swaraj India Public School

I do not buy much items on net, but yes there are certain items like the books and some mobile accessories that are not usually available on stores. While I am not addicted to net shopping, but still it drives us away from the hectic drives to the shopping complexes and also bargaining with the shop keepers.

Darshil Shah ST. XAVIERS - LOYOLLA -2 LOYOLLA 2

I never buy things from net because I think that buying things from net is risky as they maybe defective. Secondly things like electronic items should never be bought from the internet because there are chances that they may surely be defective or used before.
