NCERT To Work On Courses On India’s Tradition

What should be the module?

A vibrant India: The module should be mapped in such a way that it inculcates among the students the values that teach us unity in diversity. As future citizens, they should be indoctrinated with the heritage and beliefs of this great nation.

Suchandra Sarkar, teacher, DPS Ecity, Bengaluru

Indian hospitality: Course on Indian culture should comprise chapters related to Indian hospitality, food, religious tolerance, dances, rituals, beliefs, traditions, etc. It should do a recapitulation of things that the current generation is not aware of; those that were a mark of Indianness in the earlier decades.

Reshma Parvez, teacher, DPS Whitefield, Bengaluru

Epics: With modernisation and onset of technology Indian culture, tradition seem to be at its ebb. By introducing the epics and its interpretation  through life skill, classes will help to restore the values which seem to fade away from society. Music, dance classes need to have a classical base so that children are aware of its strength.

Moushumi Banerjee, Principal Adamas World School, Kolkata

Handicrafts: Inclusion of Kutch weaving, Rajasthani handicrafts and carpet industry of north India, which were once the backbone of India’s trade, could help in their revival in contemporary times. This would make students aware of India’s rich ethnic diversity as well. On some scale, it would also balance contemporary and traditional art forms.

Vinti Jetley, teacher, Navy Children School, Mumbai

Let’s talk peace:
The module should include how we can make peace part of everyday life, besides a chapter on conflict resolution, which is emerging as a major issue these days. It also needs to include chapter on tolerance.

Surender Sachdeva, principal, DPS, Ahmd
