Musk Gives A Sneak Peek Of Human Habitats On Mars

Elon Musk has been planning for SpaceX to go to Mars for years now. Travelling aboard the Big Falcon Rocket (BFR), the idea is to have humans not just reach Mars for research, but also to have them set up shop on the planet for the long term.

Now, the SpaceX CEO has tweeted out concept photos, giving us a look at a Martian home the company dreams of establishing. One shows the massive BFR in all its metallic glory, while the other depicts what they’re calling ‘Mars Base Alpha’.

Musk first revealed plans for an extended Mars mission way back in 2017. At the time, he detailed two BFR cargo missions by 2020 that would carry hardware and supplies. This would be in preparation for the arrival of the first Martian settlers by 2024. Of course, all this is contingent on the BFR being up to safety and quality standards, which the company will begin testing for in the first half of next year.

And that’s just the rocket, so it’ll be a long wait before we see any more details about the habits planned, and they’re likely to also change somewhat during development. And yet, if everything goes to plan, we may very well see humans living on Mars just a scant six years from now.
