Let's Celebrate Youth Power Today!

India is a young country. If reports are to go by, half of its population is under the age of 25. Two-thirds is less than 35. According to a Bloomberg News analysis, India is likely to have the world’s largest workforce by 2027, with a billion people aged between 15 and 64. As India observes National Youth Day, we find out the aspirations and challenges of our youth...

Our Aspirations

Freedom to choose without any bondage: We belong to an independent and liberal generation. Our major aspiration is to lead a life without any bondage. We seek freedom to choose and pursue a career or lifestyle of our choice without any objections from others. In other words, we should have a say in what we want to do in our life!
Saksham Pruthi, class XI, Modern Vidya Niketan, Faridabad

Freedom of expression: An enhanced freedom of expression is what the Indian youth want. We want to break stereotypes and be different from others. We demand and deserve respect like all citizens, be it young or elderly.
Tanay Toshniwal, class X, St. Therese Convent School, Dombivli, Mumbai

A good job: In this competitive era, where marks are the king, securing a berth in one of the best institutes and then getting a good job with a five-figure salary is one of the biggest aspirations of today's youth.
Viraj Shah, class XII, St Kabir, Ahmedabad

How We Can Make A Difference

Advanced thinking power and an adaptable mind are the qualities the young must possess. The youth have immense organising power and can stand unitedly against evils in society. We should take up issues like poverty alleviation, hygiene, security of girls and women in society, etc and build awareness among the not so privileged classes.
Arya Bhanushali, class X, NES Intl School, Mumbai

We can engineer change by volunteering for new skills, especially in areas that help people – such as joining an environmental conservation project, animal rights programme and so on. We can also use the online platform to put forward our views on these subjects to create awareness.
Aryan Menon, class X, Vasant Valley International, Delhi

I think the youth can make a difference by studying and working in our country. Brain drain is a huge worry in India but we, the youth, can take a conscious step by pledging to repay the values that our glorious nation has given us.
Ishika Gupta, class XI, SD Public School, Punjabi Bagh, Delhi

Major Challenges

Over-dependence on technology: We are a tech-savvy generation. But it  has also made us over-dependent on it. This, according to me, is one of the biggest challenges. It has made our lives mechanical. Google has overtaken our research over using books; we have got addicted to  social media. We are also losing out on hobbies such as music, reading, and outdoor activities.
Madhura Chattopadhyay, class X, Mater Dei School, New Delhi

Time management: As we are involved in the mad rat race, we are expected to excel in everything that we do. So, it becomes difficult to balance our lives. Time management is the biggest challenge for this generation. We lack the ability to prioritise things.
Aachal Sharma, class XII, DPS, Ahmedabad

Youth is not a time of life, but a state of mind. It''s accurate that India has youth in mass. But even today, it''s an ignoble fact that the woman are still in the shadow of men, especially in the northern regions. It''s an appreciable fact that the youth respond and make known their view in all levels. We should try to adopt the Iceland''s way of wage payment and work together for an gender equal nation, when India is still young.

(I want to I nie to put this in news paper)According to me if there is huge population then there would be lot of pollution in the future. So, instead of following the western culture we must follow the indian culture which was followed by our ancestors who were healthy and wise and salubrious. The saints of that period also live more than 1000 years. Indians were intelligent, wise, rich, and healthy without any dismay. So, I request all my Indians to work forward to plant more trees.

I aspire to become an India Foreign Services Officer so that I can serve my country on an international level. My challenges were to stay focussed throughout the journey, to be able to never lose hope in the times of failure (cause I believe they will surely come in my path) and to gain skills so that I can put forward my country''s view to the world in the most appropriate manner.
