Indian Army's World Records Will Astound You

The Armed Forces of India haven’t just protected country from attacks from the enemies but also made us proud with world beating performances in other fields. Here are some world and national records that the Indian Armed Forces have achieved.

1. Indian Army Tonadoes Team Set World Record For Most People On A Single Motorcycle

The Tornadoes stunt team of the Indian Army set a new world record for most number of people on a motorcycle recently. 58 members of the team, climbed onboard a 500cc Royal Enfield Bullet and covered a distance of 1.2 km on the runway of the Yelahanka air base on the outskirts of Bengaluru. We can’t even begin the describe the kind of balance and practice it takes to pull off something like this. And if you’re wondering where have you seen these men before, they are the same team who perform stunts on the Rajpath in the Republic Day parade.

2. Indian Air Force C-130 Makes Longest Global Flight Ever

The C-130J Super Hercules is one of the most versatile aircraft in the Indian Air Force inventory. It can carry goods, drop para commandos deep into enemy territory and fly really low to the ground. Now the Indian Air Force has the unique distinction for the longest ever flight of the C-130.

The aircraft and crew took off the early morning of Nov 18 and landed back only at 18:31 hrs in the evening, spending 13 hours and 31 mins in the air. The feat that hasn’t been matched even by the United States Air Force which has operated the aircraft from as early as 1950s.

3. Indian Navy Divers Dive To Depth Of 230 Mts

The national record for the deepest dive is held by the Indian Navy.  A team of five soldiers dived to a depth of 233 meters off the coast of Kochi in 2011. The dive was conducted from the ship INS Nireekshak diving support vessel.

4. First Indian To Para Jump Over The Two Poles

Wing Commanded Kamal Singh Oberh, a para jump instructor at Paratrooper Training School, Agra of the Indian Air Force is the first Indian to have para jumped over both the poles. He para jumped over the South Pole in the year 2000 and over the north pole in 2002.

5. Fastest Round The World Trip In A Microlight

Indian Air Force pilots Wing Commander Anil Kumar and Wing Commander Rahul Monga set a world record in 2007 by flying around the world in 79 days. Over the course of the flight the microlight covered 40,497 kms and touched 81 destinations.

The microlight aircraft weighed only 300kg and had no redundancy features built in. The duo faced adverse weather on the journey and was stuck in Anchorage, Alaska for six days and in Germany for four.

6. Fighting At The World’s Highest Battlefield

India dominates the Siachen glacier which gives it a commanding position in the region and was won after India's Op Meghdoot in 1984. Siachen Glacier is also the world’s highest battlefield that is manned throughout the year by the Indian Army. Supplies and evacuation is carried out by Cheetah helicopters of the Indian Air Force.
