How to Break Ice In New School

 Q.  I have got admission to a new school where my classmates already have their close-knit circles, and no one asks me to join their chit-chat session/games/lunch break. I feel low and lonely – how do I break the ice?

A. Change is never easy. However, you have to realise that when you enter a new space, you will have to adjust accordingly – the world cannot change for you. Here are three tips to help you break the ice:

1. Get to know the interests areas of your peer group, things that are popular among your classmates, etc.

2. Make your way into a conversation your classmates are having; don't introduce yourself right away – just add your point to it – when done, introduce yourself casually.

3. First give, then receive: offer to share lunch, your ideas about some project, etc. Smile when you spot a classmate; it will encourage others to welcome you into their circle.

Many new admissions are present in our class and it''s quite easy to sense their isolation when none of your classmate is interested in talking to them. I feel that if one spots a new tom or jack in the class, then one should go and extend a helping hand to him.
