What do research say about homeworks? Are they good?

Even though there are studies that suggest that homeworks are good for students, there are a few research that support the presence of homeworks. A Review Of Educational Research published in 2006 suggested that homeworks do have positive impact on the students, but it depends entire on the age of the students. Supporting it, an Association For Supervision and Curricullum Development study reported that whether homework will benefit student or not would be decided by the quality of it and the age of student.

CBSE is planning to look into homeworks

While updating its its affiliation byelaws for schools, CBSE is planning to look in to undue homeworks and heavy bags.

Rohan Rajesh makes a case against homework in three points

Homework! It may be one way to make students revise what is done in class, but is it really necessary. According to me, homework is a complete waste of time, and I strongly recommend that it be banned. Homework is prolix. The whole point of school is to prepare us for life as an adult. What has homework got to do with that? We are never going to earn a living by doing homework.

First of all, homework creates stress. Children in some schools get loads of homework every day. If we do not have homework, we can just focus on studying without the fear of being pulled down by teachers.

Secondly, when we get home we want to relax, hang out with friends etc. Homework keeps us away from spending time with our family. Homework gives us less time to do other things! Childhood is the stage in life when we should explore and grow as individuals, not waste it doing boring homework.

Thirdly, homework is forcing students to go home after a stressful day at school and do work that is pointless. How is a student supposed to do 2-3 hours of homework and study for tests; be active, eat healthy and get adequate sleep, all in one day?

This is epic: A Poem On Homework

Homework is a punishment that scares me

And severely troubles me,

Home work never finds a way to leave me alone

Especially when I tiredly return home,

Homework oh homework, you give me such  great pain,

That I am not even having time to swallow a grain

Home work oh homework,  you come in my dreams too

Fear and panic me

I so irritated because of you

Homework oh homework

You're a nightmare

You scare and frighten children

But that's not really fair

Homework oh homework why did come into my life

You crushed and poked me just like a knife

But though oh homework without you my dreams cannot come true

That is why  sometimes I wish you should be given too.

US school asks parents not to deliver forgotten lunches, books!
Chicago: In a novel bid to keep over- protective parents at bay, a US school has banned them from delivering forgotten lunches or books as part of efforts to inculcate a "problem solving" attitude among the students.

The Catholic High School for Boys in Little Rock, Arkansas, has instructed parents to "turn around and exit the building" and let the child learn how to deal with forgotten lunch, homework et al in their "absence". The instruction put on the front door of the school with the red 'stop' sign reads, "If you are dropping off your son's forgotten lunch, books, homework, equipment, etc., please turn around and exit the building. Your son will learn to problem-solve in your absence." The instruction has gone viral after it was posted on the school's official Facebook page. School's principal Steve Straessle defended the idea, saying that it was an attempt to teach the students the importance of "soft failures". "We put a sign up on the front door to not only alert new parents to the policy, but to remind people why we do it," Straessle was quoted as saying by KARK. "It's simply to help boys avoid the default switch of calling mom and dad when things don't go right to bail them out," he said. The school's Facebook post received over 1,20,000 shares and over 3,700 comments, igniting a debate if the instruction was to be appreciated or it accounted for unnecessary pressure on the students. I think we should get homework but in a proportion. Though homework creates a burden or a formality for students to solve, but on the other hand it also helps in making a child perfect by practicing regularly.

Homework to a certain extent is good. They help us to practice what we learned in school. Will give more time to think about the concepts. Everything depends upon the way you take it. Every coin have two sides , positive and negative.

Homework is necessary but if teachers give it in a proper manner. In exam days it causes a big problem. Moreover on weekends each teacher gives us extra homework thinking that its a holiday but its we the students who are struggling hard on weekends with this so called ''Homework.'' I think homework is good when given in a proportion.

I really want that homework should stay. It should be given but less. As kids do not study well at home, they should do homework regularly so that they study well.

Homework really is a waste of time ......it has no long term benefits ,thus it should not be encouraged .Rather students can do something productive and anyway students have a lot of work and pressure due to exams and the co-curricular activities that they are involved in.

Homework is a way to practice and revise. It should not be given to children as it becomes more of a burden than practice. The work incomplete in class and research work should be given for homework so that other revision (for exams) and extra learning with co-curricular activities be done. Children should also have a8 hours of sleep and schools should refrain from heavy bags too.

This is damn true. .

Dev Manwani FR AGNEL MULTIPURPOSE SCHOOL-AMBERN

there should be homework for children,''the more they practice, the more they will improve.'' homework is always effective but the homework should be limited and enough to be done in 1 or 1/2 hour. because excess homework creates stress in the minds of children and outdoor activities are also important but homework makes them to sit inside the house all the time
