Ever Wondered How Pollution Affects You?

In a new study, health experts suggest that youngsters are more afflicted by pollution levels than grown-ups

It’s that time of the year when the air quality starts deteriorating drastically, and even though you might not experience it yet, but, slowly and steadily, pollution starts degrading your health. Constant exposure to various forms of pollution ends up making you sick. The younger lot is at a greater risk because their contact with toxins starts earlier than adults who inhaled cleaner air while they were growing up in the 80s or early 90s when pollution was still not the menace that it is now. Here’s how pollution affects you:

It kills your immunity to allergies: Recently at a conference hosted by Indian College of Allergy, Asthma & Applied Immunology (ICAAI) to discuss the clinical and laboratory aspects of allergy, asthma and immunology, it was reported that children living in big cities such as Delhi, are likely to grow susceptible to allergic ailments, more than adults, due to urban pollution, especially air.

Leads to poor lung function: According to National Institutes of Health, USA, those who grow up in the most polluted areas are five times more likely to have poor lung function. New England Journal of Medicine reported that people who grow up in massively polluted areas are at a greater risk of lung disease, heart attacks and death.

Ruins you skin: The skin of teens is oilier than the adults, which ensures that all the dust particles and pollutants in the air land right on your face, and damage it. Besides this, exposure to ultra violet rays increases your risk of skin cancer.

Affects the development of brain: Exposure to mercury, which is released by coal-fired power plants, cement kilns and industrial boilers can hamper the development of the brain and nervous system.

Affects your tummy: Early exposure to lead, which is a major pollutant, interferes with gastro functions. It doesn’t stop there; lead in blood can also affect your behaviour.

I think that now is the time to rise and spread the awareness about harmful effects of this increasing pollution on us. We the children of a democratic country have the right to life and so no one can snatch it from us so we should raise awareness about this thing and appeal to government of nct as well as Government of India if not we then who will do it because ultimately it is affecting us.

It''s time to spread awareness and take step to prevent pollution. It''s baseless to wait for government to rectify the problem. We are the future generation, we have to spend more days in this world and not the MP''s and MLA''s or any ministers . It''s our responsibility to turn this world a better place for you and me .

"IT STARTS WITHIN YOU" hope we could get more articles too on the specified topic but whats the use if you don`t work on it. So most of us have not yet started to work on the topic, though we cause it. Here has come a hard time for us to solve the problem we created. I hope we all will participate actively in it. It is the main cause of illness in young children and adults. The air we are inhaling is filled with contaminants and is weakening and damaging our body from inside. It is very pivotal to take some steps to minimize its effects and to decrease the level of pollution. It is proving to be a huge challenge to the health of the young children.
