Enjoy The Music You Make, That's All That Matters: Adithya Kumar

Through reading music, students learn a new language that is significantly more complex than words. Musicians write for Times NIE about their journey...

I got initiated into violin at the age of seven, under the tutelage of Guru R Sridhar (in Delhi). Initially, I was exposed to music by my parents. Though, we did not have a strong music tradition in the family, I liked playing the violin and started practising. It is a difficult instrument to learn.

Somehow, I did well from the beginning. My guru encouraged me to be a part of the children’s orchestra at the India Habitat Centre. As a member of the Delhi Public School, R K Puram’s music  team, I participated and won quite a few competitions. Recently, I made my stage debut (1st solo performance) at the India International Centre in August, 2017. Violin helps me unwind and relax. It has taught me discipline.

I have learnt that persistence and perseverance can take you closer to your dream. I would advise all of you to pursue some or the other form of music. It teaches you to be humble, makes you ready to learn from your mistakes.

Never run after accolades. Music is an inherent talent but you can master it through hard work and clever strategies

I am happy that through music I can express myself better. You can do too. Enjoy the music you make and never run after accolades. It is an inherent talent but you can master it through hard work and clever strategies.
