Do The New ₹2000 Notes Have GPS Chips?

The current technology of small GPS chips is still in its nascent stage!

India jittered when Prime Minister, Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced that the ₹500 and ₹1000 legal tenders will incapacitate from the midnight of November 8. With all the upcoming tensions and news boiling in, there were several rumor which were floating over social media. The gossip is about the new legal tender, Rs 2000, which will roll out on November 11. These several claims are about the new note and how the upcoming Nano-GPS technology is embedded within the new currency.

How does the new technology work?
The new technology, Nano-GPS chip has the capability to track individual notes by satellite, according to Zee News post – "the chip has been fitted in such a way that it can detect Rs 2000 notes even from 120 meters below the ground." The note does not require any power source and can give precise location coordinates along with the serial number.

The satellite can track as well identify the exact amount of money stored in a particular location. If there is a large amount of money partied at a location, then it would send out the signal and this information will be passed to the Income Tax department.

There might be a possibility of some technology that can be rolled out with the notes but for now the Nano-GPS hasn’t been official.

Breaking the down the canard:
It is clear that as of now RBI has not made any official announcement regarding the new technology in the upcoming Rs 2000 note. In fact as of now, none of the official statements – PM’s speech, RBI’s press release or the Finance Ministry’s press release has confirmed word on it.

Breaking it the techy way:
The smallest GPS chip has a size of 4x4x2.1mm, which clears the fact that this technology is nowhere near to be embedded in any possible currencies.

Most of the upcoming notes have a varying thickness around 0.10922mm which is just way too thin for the current world’s smallest Nano-GPS technology to squeeze within it. The current technology of small GPS chips is still in its nascent stage, as of now only wearables are mostly equipped with this technology.

Nano GPS is good idea ,but it is not sure that how far it will be sucessful. As RBI hasn''t given any official announcement it may also be a fake news.

It is a good thing if there are GPS Chips in the new 2000 Rs notes. On the other hand,It might be a Rumour as well because there is no announcement from the Reserve Bank of India.

Aditi Sahi D C MODEL SCH PKL-SEC-7

It is good idea and I think we don''t even need GPS chips in all notes,I guess if we use it in every tenth note then also it will fulfill its purpose by the way such rumors seem to be to good to be true.

Brenda Marshal PADUA HIGH SCHOOL-MANKHURD

I don''t think that new two thousand notes have GPS chips. But it is a good idea. It will be good if this idea is used..

Vatanesh Sharma THE OXFORD SENIOR SEC SCH

They don''t have the GPS chips. It is confirmed by the RBI governor.

S.VISALAKSHI P.B.D.A.V. MODEL SCHOOL

Keeping navigation chip is very good idea. Even though Banning of 500 and 1000 notes brought a threat to common people, from now there will not be corruption as these chips are inculcated in it and actually it is not a big threat to common people but for the black money keepets

EKNOOR BHATTI Bal Bharati Public School

YES its a good idea but "RBI" hasn''t declared it yet ... so we should not spread fake news....

Anam Sayyed PADUA HIGH SCHOOL-MANKHURD

I doesn''t feel that the new 2000 Rs note is having gps chips but as we see it is a good idea

The tech used over here is a fabulous one but a point to be noted here its not official declared!

As RBI has not announced the information about GPS chips on the 2000 notes the news may create unnecessary crime. We need enough high technology and protection to implement and work this idea successfully

R.Rithika Reddy JOHNSON GRAMMAR HIGH SCHOOL, ICSE

If there are any chips , that is great idea as we can know about where money is transported, but it can also be a rumour

B. THANISH VARDHAN PON VIDYASHRAM

it is a fake news , they are saying rumour because if they say that gps chips are there in the 2000 note , people will not make fake notes

Ankit Jha D.A.V. SCHOOL JANAKPURI

It''s a good idea to put chip in notes. But at present it is for sure that it is not present in the notes!!

Kashish Goel Bal Bharati Public School

It''s most probably a rumour because RBI or our PM haven''t announced it yet. However,if it is true, it is a good idea.

Prakash.B Bethel Mat Hr Sec School

I think that they don''t have any GPS at alll...

syed kashif NEW BALDWIN RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL

Yes there is a chip but I am not sure that it is a nap GPS., because I saw a new app called modi note. If you open the particular app a camera will be opened if you scan 2000 rupee note you will get a video but it won''t work on old 1000,500,100etc notes.

C.Prasanna Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School - Puducherry

The GPS chip can find the note even it has been dug under the ground 200 feet. It is an excellent idea. We can track the black money easily.

Emily Liz Gilbert CHAVARA INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY

Crores and crores of people use 500 and 1000 rupee notes. Thousands of notes have been printed. It may not be possible for the RBI to put chips in all of the currency notes as these notes were only issued recently. The news about the nano chip just might be a rumor.
