Can Virat Kohli Pull Off Captaincy Role Well?

Virat Kohli Has Been Named Captain Of The Year At ESPNcricinfo Awards, but the question is — will he be able to lead the team in the same fashion that his predecessors have?

NEW DELHI: India may have lost the test match against Australia after an unbeaten winning streak in tests, there is something to cheer about for the Indian cricket fans as once again, Virat Kohli has proved why he is still considered the best. The skipper has been named as the 'Captain of the Year' at the 10th annual ESPNcricinfo Awards. Kohli led India to nine wins out of 12 Tests in the year gone by. This isn't the first award for the young captain, who took over the captaincy from MS Dhoni a couple of months ago. The year began with Kohli bagging the Padma Shri award. Late last year, Kohli was named the ICC ODI Captain of the year at ICC 2016 Awards.

“I have watched him closely during the past few weeks, often from the non-striker’s end, and I have marvelled at his confidence, his special ability to hit the ball into gaps in the field and his talent for pacing an innings to perfection. Virat Kohli is pure class, world class.” - AB DeVilliers, South African batsman

“He instills (a) lot of confidence in me. He lets me sort of choose the balls and allows me to set my fields accordingly as well- with his input a lot of the time as well. It’s been great to work under him and he’s using me very nicely,"Shane Watson, Australian All-rounder

"I always dreamt of holding the bat and winning games for India. That was my inspiration to take up cricket?" That local Delhi boy who had this little dream in his heart has today become the successful captain of the Indian Cricket Team. One loss does not mean his captaincy is not up to the mark. He is my favourite sportsman and the nation''s as well. He will raise the Indian flag even higher.
