Asteroid Spotter For Earth's Safety. Discuss

Since the Earth came into being, approximately 4.5 billion years ago, asteroids have posed a consistent danger to its existence. In fact, new evidence suggests that cosmic impact from an asteroid might have led to the extinction of dinosaurs. NASA, the American space agency has developed a new asteroid spotter that could save us from the future dangers posed by the asteroids.

Called "Scout", it spotted a near-miss asteroid on October 25, 2016.
This system allows scientists some time to try and deflect any rocks approaching Earth. When the asteroid named 2016 UR36 was detected last week, the data was uploaded to NASA's Scout system which almost instantly predicted it would pass in close proximity to Earth.

Scout monitors observations of newly reported space objects and scientists follow up immediately to calculate a precise path for objects that may pose a danger.
Eventually, the asteroid passed Earth on October 31 but was comfortably far away at 310,000 miles, which is almost three times the distance between the Earth and moon.
The asteroid spotter is currently under testing and will be completely active next year.
