Are We Really Enjoying Our Childhood?

According to a study conducted by Child Relief and You,  there are about 1090 missing children reported  in 2016. A National Crime Records Bureau statistic will shock you with its figures - 25 adolescent deaths,  13 teenagers have commmited suicide and 5 toddlers have been murdered in this year.  The child Labour graph is at a dismal high of 27%.

World over the condition is no better -  more than 2500 children are refugees without a parent.  Globally 1 in every 25 child is abused.

In the light of all this,  are we truly celebrating Children? Are "children" happy about being "children" today?

Young India feels there is a lot that needs to be done to guarantee a safe haven for children where they could lead a carefree life as kids. Although the growing crime graph paints a sordid picture, our Youth Reporters feel a dedicated day like Children's Day could help in generating awareness towards Child issues.

Celeb Mothers Say They Feel The Pinch

No we are not celebrating children at all.  If we were,  our kids would be safe to play in the streets till late at night.  It would have been okay for them to wear whatever they want,  sit however they please.  The number of restrictions on children make them live a robotic - adult-like life.  I have done it with Renee.  She isn't allowed to go out in certain clothes,  I am very tensed whenever she has a sleepover.  The reason is because the world doesn't respect Children.

Yug and Nysa have a lot of freedom but somewhere they have missed out on their childhood.  The problems they face at school from bullying to body shaming, everything is serious stuff.  I remember during my childhood, "teasing" and "pointing" fingers was considered to be rude.  Today there are all sorts of forms of ragging and children are relentless.  That's just the tip of the problem. No,  we are not celebrating Children in the right way as we should.

Young India Have Their Say

Whenever I am speak with my great grandfather who is 93 years, about his friends and their childhood, his eyes would lit up. He talks for the whole day about the good old days where he went  around the fields bare foot, climbed the trees , enjoyed fishing and took bath in the river with his friends, they were not restricted by their parents, they were not forced to go for tuitions and be with the books whole day ,still they become successful in life.

Today are we enjoying all these? How can we say that we are children and going to celebrate a day for us called children’s day? Will we have any memories to share when we become old about our childhood? The pitiful condition is that if children’s day is declared as a holiday, it will turn to tuition day.

Allow the young mind to roam freely for a moment around. Why feeding children a rich diet of physical and moral carnage, and protest about the infiltration of chemicals into food, radiation into brains, carbon monoxide into their lungs. Is it inevitable?

Yes, if this attitude of our parents, educators, government and society is not going to change, I wish, there should not be a single day to celebrate as children’s day.

Bhavana Jaison, class XI,  Atomic Energy Central School,  Mumbai

Going by the present-day plight of the children, the 'future citizens' ,as we call them, I feel that the pulchritude of their life has vanished. The brutal atrocities they face, society's life-devastating expectations on them, lack of education, child labour, malnutrition, child prostitution, human trafficking make us question the relevance and reason behind celebrating Children's Day. Any such one-day celebration is just insignificant till we start respecting every 'being'.

Navya Malhotra,  class XI, Swaraj Public School,  Kanpur

The authenticity which existed during our parents time as narrated by them, I don't think we are actually celebrating this day. Ceremonies have become a farce where, things happen just for their sake, with no warmth or affection, all missing. The news is filled with multiple crimes rising against the girl child, especially, so where is the truth behind the show.

Gobindpreet Singh, X, Lucknow Public Collegiate

It is my opinion that we are not celebrating children on children's day as our society has failed to reduce crime against children, has withheld education from girls and has made the streets to unsafe for normal children.

One day is not enough to celebrate our future and the future of India not to mention the world. We should rather celebrate children by making it safer for them and providing a thorough education that would prove useful to them in their future.

Krteyu Pillai, class VIII, Goldcrest High, Vashi, Navi Mumbai

Children’s Day is supposed to celebrate all of the children of India, not just a few. High levels of inequity and rising crime rates indicate that we are not really celebrating children.

Upasana Behera, Class IX, DPS Newtown, Kolkata

No. There are a lot of crimes taking place against children every day. Even on Children's Day, for example, there are instances of kidnapping and illegal trafficking. In order to celebrate children on Children's Day, we must take strict measures to decrease the crimes against children to zero percent and then should we claim to be celebrating Children's Day.

Gagan Malvi, class IX, Kendriya Vidyalaya NAL, Bengaluru

Celebrating Children's Day is not just about distributing toffees and balloons on just one day of the year. It's about ensuring that every child has the right to education and protection. It's about spreading happiness even among those children who are forced to play with death in glass factories.

Varna Sajee, class X, St. Thomas Public School, Bengaluru

It is definitely not enough to dedicate just one day for children; working towards giving children a better quality of life should be an everyday endeavour, especially in a country like ours where child labour and female foeticide and infanticide still exist.

-- Nithya Raghu, class IX, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's PS, Hyderabad

Every year on 14th of November Children's Day is celebrated to increase awareness of people towards rights, care and education of children. We get to hear of thousand of heart-rendering cases daily involving children's rights violation, which cast a dark shadow over the essence of this celebration. This day is meant to celebrate our liberty, rights and existence but the victimised children are far away from this joy.

No, children are the upcoming soldiers who'll fight for survival in this chaotic world. Children deserve to be given more time, love, knowledge, strength at every point and hope. We need to empower them and this is not a one-day job, but a constant endeavour. Every day must be observed as Children's Day.

Akshat Sharma, class X, Bhavan Vidyalaya, Panchkula

MANAS KUMAR BAL BHARTI PUBLIC SCHOOL (PITAM PUR

If this is the situation of children in 21''st century then how can we expect our nation to progress? Children of today are the future of India. Children are pure, pious and lovely creations of god without any conditioned minds. They should be given love, care, knowledge ,support and education to become self dependent in life. Then only in true sense children''s day will be celebrated.

Ishika Jain BHARTI PUBLIC SCHOOL (SWASTHYA VHR)

Children are seen as partners in the survival. From being a spirited carefree bird answerable to none, they become an over-worked unhappy child with no trace of childhood left in them. It steals away from the children the privilege of being their own master.

Aditi Sahi D C MODEL SCH PKL-SEC-7

no, we are not celebrating childhood with all those security related problems, heavy bags ,burden of homework, not real but virtual life and forcing them to be perfect.

saishalini Bethel Mat Hr Sec School

No not at all. People started to celebrate their life with the worldly pleasures which are not permanent and depend upon a life full of money and enjoyment and also the technology has imparted them with all kind of ill mannerism and attitudes different from our normal life and started loosing their dignity. So I feel children are the most affected ones.

Vihan R. Yalamanchili DDMS P.OBUL REDDY PUBLIC SCHOOL

Most of us are quite well off. We should remember that there are many other children in this world, living in poverty, being mercilessly abused, without food, shelter, and education, simply suffering. We do truly enjoy our lives compared to them, as we enjoy what others take for granted. The world can only become a better place when all children receive basic needs and education.

There is a lot to ensure our wellbeing

JIYA TOMAR B G S NATIONAL PUBLIC SCHOOL

I think in some cases we are very well enjoying our childhood, but we don''t have a scarcity of such cases wherein we fail to enjoy these nascent days of our life due to innumerable woes in the society be it bullying, harassment, eve-teasing or even our over-indulgence in the rising modern etiquettes and practices like mobile phones, chatting etc. So, I think everything has to be done at the right time and only then will we be able to thrive well.

E. Deepak Sen Bethel Mat Hr Sec School

Childhood is a part in every human''s life, it should be enjoyed and there must be learning . But when most of the childhood is spent in fctories or in lonliness there is no enjoyment. Especially in a country like India childhood is not enjoyed.

Himanshi Dhawan Saffron Public School

No, we ain''t. The innocence of childhood is somewhat lost in this modern world. At the time, when they should enjoy granny''s night stories, they are being exposed to tablets, computers, laptops and many more. They play video games instead of playing some outdoor games. Childhood is the golden period of life which should be cherished.

Snegha.L Bethel Mat Hr Sec School

we are celebrating children only for specific purposes.there is a lot to be done for their well being.

Sharmeen Khan PADUA HIGH SCHOOL-MANKHURD

Children these days are confined to the four walls of tutions and the white screen of mobile phones. They are afraid to go out alone for they can be seen as an income of money for some people. They afraid of being themselves for they can be judged for being who they are. They are forced to carrry bricks in the hot sun for it is their only way of survival. And they are terror-stricken of this world that thinks celebrating a day with their name will solve all the problems it has created for them.

sudharshan.ak CAMBRIDGE SCHOOL DEVASANDRA K R P

No we are not celebrating childhood because there are more wrong things going on in our country so until and unless this wrong things stop''s no body can enjoy or celebrate child hood.

Debdutta Banerjee Apeejay School Salt Lake

Yes we are enjoying our childhood by our ways. Even if someone refuses everyone loves themselves the best, so we can reach to any limit for our enjoyment. But children who are labours have more enjoyment, cause they are simple and enjoy living with their cows, goats, and family. We have enough but we want more, that''s why we didn''t really understood the meaning of enjoyment still now. Our parents enjoyed their simple lives better

saumya QUEEN VALLEY''S SEC-8 DWARKA

Children''s Day should not be considered as only one day for the celebration of childhood, but all days should be celerated as Children''s day. Its duty of the every citizen to take care of the children. We should always ensure that they deserve right education, love and the grace.

Darshil Shah ST. XAVIERS - LOYOLLA -2 LOYOLLA 2

We are really enjoying our childhood compared to other poor children as they are the ones who live in poverty. We are very lucky compared to those children and we should thank the Almighty for his blessings.

Mansi Borade PADUA HIGH SCHOOL-MANKHURD

Child labour refer to the practice of engaging children in economic activities. This children are deprived for primary education and exposed to mental and physical danger. The curse of child labour has deeply penetrated in Indian city. The government should make proper arrangement to ensure that the child labour laws are properly fallowed.

BHUVANA.V Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School - Puducherry

In this mordern world, children are living their lives within the four walls. And their working parents don''t have enough time to spend with them. So the children feel lonely with no one to share their thoughts. Nowadays these young children do not have healthy mind and body.

SHUBHAM BANSAL RYAN INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

no not at all. we are enjoying our life as we want. our parents are so caring that they do all possible efforts to make us happy. in this generation children are on the top of the world!!!!!

R.Varsha Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School - Puducherry

Enjoying childhood in this modern and fast world is of no probability. Childhood is the period where they need love, care and immense protection. Protection and love from parents is the of the hour.
