7 Young Indian Authors You Should Be Reading

Being a writer is no easy business as you sit down to first come up with a story, write it and then edit it about 3543 times before it actually gets published. It takes that much effort and that's exactly why authors who give us some good stories to escape into deserve our attention. While there's a lot of talent around, there are some people who truly are storytellers and can weave their words to touch our hearts. And no, Chetan Bhagat is not one of them.

Here are 7 young Indian authors who are making a mark with their work, be it romance, research or thrilling fiction:

1. Sudeep Nagarkar

The fact that Sudeep is a brilliant writer is proven by the fact that this young one's works have already been translated to regional languages. He writes stories that are relatable to a younger audience that struggles with love and relationships. His works like Sorry, You're Not My Type and Few Things Left Unsaid have been picked up by the young Indians who are looking forward to reading some real stories about love.

2. Nikita Singh

If you've been craving to read something super romantic and soothing, pick up something by Nikita Singh. She started her journey from Love @ Facebook and since then, has been creating one best-seller after the other. She started her writing career at 20 and at 26, she already has six best-sellers to her name, including her latest work Letters To My Ex. Her understanding of relationships makes readers connect to her instantly and if you get to reading her work, you'll discover that she gives rather good relationship advice through her perfectly weaved stories of romance.

3. Meghna Pant

The beauty of Meghna's writing is that she captures the world in all its grey hues. Her very first novel, One & A Half Wife was critically acclaimed and won her the Muse India Young Writer Award. She has since then, published two more books, Happy Birthday! and The Trouble With Women. Her writing is fresh, hard-hitting and will leave you with food for thought.

4. Nidhi Dugar Kundalia

Here's a young journalist who has been writing with some of the most established media houses in India and making a mark in the world through her journalistic work. However, it is her book The Lost Generation: Chronicling India’s Dying Professions that establishes her as a rather hard-working journalist who is good with words. Talking about the dying professions of India, there is research and good quality writing that makes us pick up the book. We can't wait for her next one!

5. Kanishk Tharoor

Here's A young voice with a heavy impact, Kanishk really knows how to use words to leave his readers with some of the most memorable stories. His first and latest work,  Swimmer Among the Stars, has been warmly welcomed in the literary society with some bright reviews. His current book mixes the past with the present and we say you pick this book if you want to read something well-written as well as thought provoking.

6. Ira Trivedi

This lady is a writer, yoga acharya, a journalist and an entrepreneur! She started writing at a rather young age and her previous works like The Great Indian Love Story or even What Would You Do To Save The World are perfect for the young adult audience. Her work My Book Of Yoga is a book that talks about asanas, techniques and methods to introduce young kids to yoga so that they can lead a healthy lifestyle. However, it is her recent non-fiction work India in Love: Marriage and Sexuality in the 21st Century that is really proving that she isn't just about fiction but can do equal justice to even non-fiction books. Pick up any of her books and you will be hooked.

7. Sachin Garg

Someone who can truthfully tell the story of young India, Sachin draws his inspiration from his own life events. He manages to put his own experiences in words and that's what makes him a good writer. We love how much we can relate to his work. There's also diversity of genres in his work. He started as a romance writer but his recent work marks a shift as he writes about the life of the tribal population in Andaman.
