7 Best Tech Innovations Of 2016

Chevrolet Bolt Electric Car: Changing the auto landscape

Electric car is going to be the next big thing in the automobile industry. This is why big players like General Motors are coming up with innovations in electric car. Chevrolet Bolt is one of them. The all-electric vehicle gives you an estimated range of 238 miles per full charge. General Motors is offering this electric car at an economical price ($37500) when compared to the Tesla Model S ($66000). Pamela Fletcher, the engineer at GM Motors, sees this as “opportunity to take electric cars mainstream”.

Amazon Echo: The voice-activated interface

Don’t be fooled by the standard look of the Echo, the Bluetooth speaker from Amazon. Just the way Microsoft’s Cortana and Apple’s Siri help you talk to your tech, Amazon Echo has Alexa embedded in it, which means that the speaker can actually talk back to you. Amazon has been increasing the functionality of Alexa steadily. Today, Alexa can be used to order pizza, book a cab via Uber, and can turn off the lights. So what’s next for Alexa? The tech team at Amazon is working on making it more intuitive! Google recently launched AI-based Assistant as rival to Amazon Echo.

DJI Mavic Drone: Fits in the palm of your hand

DJI, a Chinese technological company, recently launched a drone called Mavic Pro. It features a 4K camera, obstacle-avoidance technology, as well as the ability to track objects when it is flying. Unlike the bulky drones, DJI’s Mavic drone can fold down till its size is similar to that of a loaf of bread. Its ability to fold down makes its less susceptible to accidents.

iPhone AirPods: The wireless earphones

As iPhone 7 does not have an audio jack, Apple had to come up with a new form of headphones. AirPods are wireless headphone that can sense when you have them in your ears. If you want to pause the music, you simply have to take one of the AirPods out of your ear. These pods do come with microphones and the best thing is that there are no wires to untangle. You can even activate Siri by double tapping one of the AirPods.

UNICEF Kid Power Band: Truly innovative

Designed by Ammunition, a San Francisco based company, UNICEF Kid Power Band addresses the problems of kids not getting enough food and enough exercise simultaneously. With the help of the mobile app, kids are motivated to exercise — there are videos from Alex Morgan (American soccer player) and others. Once they accumulate certain points, UNICEF sends food packages to malnourished children in the world.

Playstation VR: Next-gen gaming  experience

Virtual reality has become extremely popular in recent times because of its ability to give you a unique experience. You feel more involved, whether you use it for entertainment or in the health care sector. Most of the virtual reality headsets in the market cost a bomb; because not only do you have to buy the headset, but also the computer that can support it. However, Sony’s Playstation VR works perfectly well with the Playstation 4 – a console that is owned by a large number of people.

Wynd: The smart air purifier

Wynd is a portable air purifier that draws in all the contaminants in your immediate surrounding, even those that can lead to heart disease and cancer. This air filter is the size of a water bottle and actually does create a clean environment around you. The creator of Wynd, Ray Yu, stated, “What we breathe matters. We want to enable everyone to enjoy a healthy air environment, no matter where they live or travel.”
