Be Sceptical On The Web: Ankit Fadia

The World Wide Web is a bliss, but it can prove to be nightmarish if you are not cautious while using it. In fact, cyber experts insist that netizens should be extremely sceptical about websites, mails, pop-ups and requests to download software. Computer security expert and noted ethical hacker Ankit Fadia says that being sceptical in the virtual world will ward off threats originating from the internet, which have grown significantly with the increasing penetration of smartphones in the country. “Smartphones should have made people smarter about safe browsing, but it didn't happen, awareness on cyber security issues is still negligible. Fraudsters send emails to people saying that they have won a lottery and people fall for such a trick. Victims hand over their bank account details thinking that the money will be directly credited to their account, however, this information is instead used for internet banking frauds. Users should not take anything on face value,” Fadia said. To save yourself from hackers, you must install an anti-virus on your mobile phone, disable wi-fi while not using it, switch off Bluetooth and don’t open attachments or forwards.  Also, report cyber crimes to the police.
