WhatsApp To Roll Out New Features In 2020

Instant messaging app WhatsApp is expected to receive several new features in 2020. These features have been spotted time and again in beta version of the app —sometimes for iOS and other times for Android — as and when WABetaInfo — the website that tracks the changes and upcoming features on WhatsApp — finds them.

Out of all the features that are expected to be rolled out to WhatsApp soon, we feel, that Disappearing Messages may be the one that changes the way we use WhatsApp.

This feature was spotted first in October as ‘Disappearing Messages’ in the beta version of the Android app (v 2.19.275). Then in November, it was again found in beta version 2.19.348 of the app as ‘delete messages.’

Both times, it was discovered that this feature will work for Group chats and will be enabled by only administrators of that particular group.

The most recent update showed that option of ‘Delete messages’ will appear in the ‘Group settings’ with other options such as ‘Edit group info’, ‘Send messages’ and ‘Edit group admins.’

Admins will get the option to choose how long new messages will be allowed to stay on the chat before they are deleted. As per the screenshots that were posted when this feature was spotted, there will be six choices — off, 1 hour, 1 day, 1 week, 1 month and 1 year. In the October update, WhatsApp was spotted with only two choices — for 5 seconds or 1 hour.

Coming back to the latest update, whichever option the users select, should be applicable to all members of the chat. This means that users may not be able to select the expiration time for a particular or individual message.

Although spotted in the beta update for the app’s Android version, the feature can be expected to make its way to iOS users as well.
