Be Smart, Become Eco-friendly

Who would have thought that being an idiot could harm the environment? Well, it does.

So, please stop being one. And if someone around you needs to hear this, tell them too.

You agree environment change is real, right? Now let me tell you, climate change is messing up the entire world - it's hot when it shouldn’t be, it's cold where it shouldn’t be and we do not know about humans dying in a nuclear war, but if we don't mend our ways, we will definitely melt or drown.

Now, there is hardly anything we can do to reverse the process of climate change, but there is A LOT we can do to stop the process. And that doesn’t even require us to do much - just stop being idiots.

Yes, I know we all have fast lives with no time to even comb our hair properly, so actively trying to bring change in the rotting environment is well beyond thought. But hey, there are some things you can do that require almost no effort. Stop doing some actions that defy logic and voila, you will be saving the environment without bothering your lazy ass!

TURN THAT SWITCH OFF

You leave your home, you lock your doors, who in the house is using that light or charger that you left running on the power switch? Are you housing ghosts? And even if you are, unless they are paying you rent it DOES NOT MAKE SENSE to waste electricity and money.

TURN THAT TAP OFF

You are brushing your teeth, thinking about what you are going to do the entire day, or just musing how sad your life is, meanwhile that tap is running, water is flowing. How stupid do you have to be to not realise that you are wasting water and you should not. It's basic logic - turn off what you do not need.

And not just while brushing, some people let litres of water run to the drain while they are washing their hands or face with soap. How hard is it for you to turn that tap back on? It cannot be harder than the break up you had, or your single life, right? Don’t be that person. Every drop counts.

GET THOSE LEAKS MENDED

I mean dikhne me acha to nahi lagta hoga right? And the sound of water droplets can also be irritating right? You might think that the leaking water tap in your washbasin does not waste a lot of water because ‘ek do boond hi to hai’ but if you actually count, ek ekdrop karke litres of water is being wasted, which again, you are paying for. Choose to not be an idiot.

KYA KARTE HO SHOWER MEIN?

Actually, don't answer that, at least not out loud.

Shower thoughts are real. Existentialism hits another level during a hot shower and when most of us are dwelling on thoughts like ‘nothing really matters’, a lot of water gets wasted and that actually kinda matters.

Take a bucket bath. Two benefits - no morning existential thoughts and water is saved.

If you try to keep your general knowledge updated, you would know that several cities have already run out of water, and others have a few days or months-worth of water left. Using a bucket instead of a shower is one of the things that you can do to minimize the utilization of water.

A five-minute shower uses almost the same amount of water as a bucket full of water, so it doesn’t hurt once in a while, but one should take care to avoid taking shower baths longer than 5-10 minutes.

MAY BE DON'T USE STRAWS?

Do you know someone who is a pseudo environmentalist and complains about plastic while sipping their drink through a plastic straw? It's okay if you are that person (it's not, I am lying). But let’s employ logic here.

Why do you need a straw in the first place? You drink directly from your glass when at home right? And that is just a wild assumption, so why can you not do the same in public? The restaurant failed to be environment friendly? Up your game, refuse plastic straws to begin with, you really do not need those; trust me you will get out of the eating joint alive if you do not use straws.

WHY IS YOUR CAR RUNNING, BRO?

You are at a 2-minute-long traffic light or are waiting for a friend in your car, does it not make sense to you to turn the engine off? Save some fuel and let your car breathe? Can you absolutely not do without 2 minutes of AC? Stop being an idiot, save fuel, stop carbon emission when you can.

THROWING GARBAGE OUT, SHOWS THE GARBAGE IN YOUR HEAD

See, you might be rich enough to own an SUV or the latest Apple iPhone, but you have no class if you are someone who flings garbage out on road while traveling.

There are n number of places in a car where you can stack up your garbage and dispose it all off at the end of your journey. Polluting the roads and other public places only makes you look like an idiot dressed in fancy clothes. Stop littering.

DO YOU REALLY NEED A CAR TO TRAVEL TWO KILOMETERS?

Yes, you have a car, so it is easier for you to commute, but that does not mean you forsake all your common sense. Use public transport or a bicycle to travel short distances. It reduces your carbon footprint and the traffic on the road. You like it when there is no traffic on road, right? Well, then start by being the person who reduces it.

Follow all these steps to be free of all the idiocy in your system. Just by not being an idiot you can be an environmentally-aware person who pollutes the environment a tad less, and God knows we could really use some of that.
