8 Features Of Samsung Galaxy S8, S8+

Samsung's has revamped its flagship lineup for the year 2017 with the launch of Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones. The premium smartphones boast of a new design along with a host of features and advancements. Here's we bring to you the 8 biggest from the lot ...

Top-of the-line processor
Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ are both powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 processor. The duo is the very first smartphones to come with Qualcomm's top-of-the-line processors. They are also the 'world's first 10nm processors'. The Galaxy S8 series will be powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor (2.35GHz quad-core + 1.7GHz quad-core) in US and some other markets. However, in select markets including India, the company may launch the variant running on its in-house Exynos 8895 SoC. Samsung's Exynos 8895 SoC too is said to be 10nm processor

Debuts Bixby, Apple Siri's rival
Here comes Samsung's rival to Apple's Siri, Google Assistant and Microsoft's Cortana -- Bixby. Samsung claims Bixby will be doing much more than rival assistants. It will be able to handle any smartphone task currently managed by touch. Bixby will also offer information on books, wine and any other products scanned with the phone's camera.
However, there's a catch, Bixby will so far work only with Samsung's selected apps, including the photo gallery and messages. Not all touch commands will have voice counterparts right away.

Gigabit-LTE capable
The Galaxy S8 will be the first smartphone capable of gigabit LTE speeds to hit the markets. This is courtesy Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chip (which is exclusive to Samsung till April), it is the company's first chipset capable of gigabit speeds.

Home button comes right into the screen
Samsung's new smartphones boast of a refreshed design. Both the phones come with curved sides. The frame, or bezel, surrounding the display has been minimized. The horizontal strip at the bottom has made way for home button, which enters right inside the screen using pressure-sensitive hardware. Giving a premium finish to the device, there's Corning Glass 5 both at the front and bottom.

World’s first phones to get mobile HDR certification
Samsung's new smartphones are claimed to be the first in the world to get mobile HDR certification from the UHD alliance.

Infinity display
Both Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ have edge-to-edge curved displays, something that the company calls 'Infinity display'. Samsung claims the bezel-less, dual-edge display takes up more than 80% of the phone’s front screen. According to the company, display of the Galaxy S8 is 18% larger than the display of the Galaxy S7. When watched in landscape mode, 21:9 movies fill the Galaxy S8’s 18.5:9 display, while the black bars above and below the picture are minimized, increasing the viewing area by 36 percent, compared to the Galaxy S7.

New UX
Samsung introduces an all-new UX with the two phones. Aimed to enhance user experience, the default wallpaper of the customizable Always On Display complements the color of the phone. There's also a new vertical swiping interface that aims to provide seamless navigation between the Home and App screens. Even the phone's app icons and typography incorporate the Galaxy S8’s design language through a play of continuous curves and lines.

Samsung Dex
Samsung has also introduced an optional docking station with the new S8 smartphone series that can turn the phone (or phones) into a desktop computer when connected to a regular TV. Dubbed DexStation, users will be able to resize windows and work on several apps at the same time in this mode. It's similar to Microsoft Continumm. The DeX Station can connect to the smartphones to any HDMI-compatible monitor. DeX supports keyboard and mouse gestures as well.
