Valuable Lessons My Dad Taught Me

To say that we have been raised by an incredible father is an understatement. Everything we have learnt about parenting is from him. Here are some lessons that every father passes on about parenting right.

1. Respect - if you want your child to respect you, set the example first. Children don't listen they observe. Teach them respect by example, by respecting them first.

2. Listen - don't listen to shut them up. Put everything down (yes even your phone). Sit down with them, look them in the eye, don't interrupt them and really listen to what they are saying. If you want them to listen to you, start by listening to them first.

3. Don't deny them what they are feeling. This is hard as a parent because you may not always agree with what they have to say but it is important that you show your child that you accept and respect how they feel. That acceptance from a parent will open the child up more to listening to what the parent has to suggest. Acceptance is the key.

4. Never use fear to instill respect or discipline. Ask yourself this - do you want your child to respect you because they are afraid of you or do you want your child to respect you because they love you?

5. Never get angry when your child admits something they did wrong. The fear of being yelled at will encourage the child to lie to his/her parents rather than admit the truth. Show them that you can handle the truth. Save the yelling for an emergency situation.

My dad was going to UK for three months and when I got to know about it, I was pretty upset. So my dad played this song and made me dance with him. He then told me to just play that song whenever I missed him. It was my favourite moment with my dad!

My favorite moment with my dad would be when he used to tell me stories when I was small. There was this one story I still remember. He called it ''Franklin'', just as the cartoon I used to love. The story lasted over two months, with almost 10 huge parts to it, and even today we recall those moments and laugh.
