My First Trip Abroad: Thailand

The clouds stretched long across the sky, pleasant breeze, sweet smell of salty water mixed in sand and the sound of waves crashing against each other completed the scene of a perfect sunset I had always read about in thick books, tells Sumedha Ramesh, a class VI student of DPS Nacharam, Hyderabad...

During my summer vacations, I went to Krabi Island in Thailand. My younger brother & I were very excited as this was the first time we were flying abroad. Although the flight was a red eye one, it was comfortable & quick.

We all were eager to reach the resort, which was an island in the vast blue Andaman Sea. Krabi Province, which lies along the coast of the Andaman Sea in Southern Thailand, is a top tourist destination as a result of its plentiful natural attractions including white sandy beaches, crystal clear water, extensive coral reefs, numerous caves and waterfalls and over 100 islands.

The only means of transport to our sea resort was the Tuktuk, which is a modified open Indian auto & takes you up to the pier. Thereafter, the long tail boat takes all the guests & luggage to the island. Although our boatman steered it well, the furious waters made the boat go up & down. It was a thrilling experience.

We all got separate cottages to stay. Once we settled down, we took time out to venture around. The golden sands beckon you every moment & it was wonderful making sand castles with my friends.

The sun set in Krabi is magnificent - the sheer beauty of the golden sky merging with the blue waters is breathtaking. The clouds stretched long across the sky, pleasant breeze, sweet smell of salty water mixed in sand and the sound of waves crashing against each other completed the scene of a perfect sunset I had always read about in thick books.

While walking along the cool beach, we saw many colourful crabs & 2-3 monitor lizards. While I was scared, my brother was analysing their species..Do you know Monitor lizards have long necks, powerful tails and claws, and are 100% carnivorous?

Each day of our holiday was planned out exploring caves, trying out snorkelling, getting drenched in the rain & of course, the beach.

We loved this paradise on earth... Our holiday was truly memorable.
