Afterlife Of Pets

 Pets die too

It is a harsh truth and actually the ultimate reality of life--like human life, our pets too die. In fact, most of the pets like dogs and cats and birds have smaller life span as compared to us humans. Same principle of life and death applies to them.

So what actually happens

What actually happens to the pets is an interesting question. Is there a deeper conscience in them too that guides them to do good Karma in order to achieve heaven, just like we human profess to have?

The afterlife of pets

In this article, we will discuss in general what happens to our pets when they die. Without doubt, I am not an expert but we will try to cite our certain examples and take it from there.

Pandavas had a pet dog

No wonder keeping pets is not a modern wont. We have reference of Mahabharata in which Pandavas had a dog. This dog get featured twice (at least)--once at the time when Pandavas were undergoing their training in the Gurukula of Drona, while the second instance comes at the end of the epic.

Will not enter without the dog

It is mentioned that Yudhishthra refused to enter the heaven if his dog was denied the entry. He argued that the dog has served them in life and deserves equal treatment in the afterlife too.

A general view of afterlife

The general view about animals is that they undergo their life-spans and continue to evolve till they get a chance to be human and get a chance to liberate themselves.

Contrasting schools of thought

One school say that if you are born as a human, you will continue to be born as a human till you liberate yourself. There's a sort of hierarchy in the type of births that you get, and humans sit on the top of that. If you reach the top, you continue to be there till you liberate yourself but you can't fall back to lower levels of creation, namely be born as a animal or the likes.

The second school

The second school of thought says that you may be born as an animal or any other form of life even after becoming a human--it all depends upon your Karma.

The case of entering the heaven

As we all know, heaven in not the last destination--it's like a mid-way resort where you enjoy certain luxuries because you had planned your itinerary well. The destination is far-far ahead. So, even if there is a case of you entering heaven, you will have to come out of it. Same goes for pets too.

Neha Varadharajan The Orbis School

This is too spiritual. I do agree with this, although all can not be true. We are mortals, what do we know? I just say we should not sit or cry in grief, and instead carry on. It does leave a long impact in your life. Be happy always, and remember no human or animal is immortal!
