Solarin

Israeli startup Sirin Labs has launched the world's most expensive Android smartphone. Called Solarin, the smartphone has been dubbed as the 'Rolls Royce of smartphones'. Here's all you need to know about the phone, that’s priced at Rs9 lakh approx.

The most secured phone: The company claims that Solarin is the world's most secure Android smartphone. The smartphone offers 256-bit AES encryption, almost similar to what the defence forces use to protect communication. It can be activated with the help of a security switch located at the back  of the phone.

Technology: Solarin runs on a 2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, comes with support for 24 bands of LTE, and promises far superior Wi-fi connectivity than standard mobile phones.

Camera: The smartphone features a 23.8-megapixel rear camera, with laser autofocus and industry-leading four-tone flash, plus a front-facing flash. There's an 8-megapixel front camera with flash and electrical image stabilisation.

Uniqueness: It is not a sleek smartphone, as it weighs as much as 250 gm. It measures 78mm x 159.8mm x 11.1mm. Solarin packs a 4,000mAh battery and has 4GB of RAM and 128GB of non-expandable storage. The company claims it has a talk-time of 31 hours (UMTS) and standby time of 'over 2 weeks' for the smartphone. It also comes with Qualcomm QuickCharge 2.0 support. The phone is water- and dust-resistant. The body is made of Grade 5 titanium, and has a set of Bang and Olufsen stereo speakers. The sapphire crystal renders the screen virtually scratch-proof – it is claimed to be four times stronger than other smartphones in terms of impact resistance.

Where it is available: The device for the rich and famous is available at Sirin Labs’ first retail store in Mayfair (34 Bruton Place), London, from June 1 and at Harrods, Knightsbridge. Later it will be available around the world, including India.

Other luxury mobile phones: In 2006, Nokia launched a $310,000 ‘Signature Cobra’ device in 2006 and the $5,000 "Constellation" smartphone in 2011.
