Tips To Attempt Chemistry

Question 1: Write the mechanism involved in the formation of ether. (2- 3 Marks)

1. Analyse the given question carefully.
2. Write the main chemical reaction involved.
3. Give answer for the mechanism in a sequential manner(step by step). Each step comprises either ½ or 1 mark.
4. Write the name of the each step involved.

Question 2: 2g of benzoic acid (C6H5COOH) is dissolved in 25g of benzene shows a depression in freezing point equals to 1.62 K. What is the percentage association of acid if it forms dimer in the solutio . (Given that: Kf = 4.9Kkgmol-1)
1. To attempt a numerical, write all the given data in the starting of answer.
2. Writing of formula carries ½ marks.
3. Values substitution in formula and simplification of calculation also carries marks.
4. Correct answer with correct units should be mentioned as they also carry weightage.

Suggestions for not committing mistakes
1. Be through with all the formulas used in physical chemistry.
2. Practice same type of numerical (atleast 10) for clear concept.
3. Application based questions should be practiced regularly.
4. Value Based questions are the examples from day to day life so should be attempted keeping in view.
5. Always remember to put units in the numerical.
6. Structures should be neat and tidy and made with pencil.
7. Balancing of equation should be kept in mind while writing chemical equations.
8. Regular written practice of organic name reactions as they can be asked directly or indirectly.

Some best and worst answers
Question 1: Why SO3 is not absorbed directly in water to form H2SO4?
Best Answer: Because of Fuming Nature of SO3 and the reaction is highly exothermic in nature.
Worst Answer: Because SO3 cannot be adsorbed in water.

Question 2: HF is stored in wax coated glass bottles. Why?
Best Answer: It is so because HF is corrosive in nature and attacks glass and reacts with it to form fluorosilicate ions.
Worst Answer: Because HF does not reacts with wax coating and remains safe to use.

Question 3: Noble gases have larger atomic radii than other elements. Why?
Best Answer: Noble gases have vanderWaal radii, which is largest in size as they have weakest intermolecular forces of attraction due to their fully filled stable configuration.
Worst answer: Because noble gases have the biggest size in comparison to other elements.
