How Did Life Originate On Earth?

We have still not been able to solve this mystery but there are many theories that abound. We know that Earth is estimated to be about 4.5 billion years old, but the initial years on the planet were hostile for any kind of life form to flourish. The atmosphere was toxic  with the landscape getting subjected to constant asteroid bombardment. Around a billion years later, some scientists say our atmosphere became stable enough to support life.

Scientists believe that the first life form was a long chemical chain of so-called nucleic acids (a nucleic acid is a complex organic compound found in all living organisms. They are important because they contain information and allow self-replication). These components are found in the DNA and RNA of every living being. Theories on where and how life began range from the sublime to the bizarre. One camp says that deep-sea vents known as black smokers nurtured the first life. Its supporters say that these primitive cellular pumps could have powered life-giving chemical reactions.

Another camp believes life began in a pool of water, called ‘soup’, because it was rich with the kinds of chemicals needed to make life. There are others who believe that the first life form arrived on Earth by hitching a ride on a meteorite. Some even say life might have arisen here more than once. In short, the jury is still out!

I think that life originated through small lets which were trapped in asteroids which bombarded the earth. Also through some molecules of amino acids which formed primitively.

I think life started in water and then gradually larger and complicated animals were formed. It could also have been due to a meteorite or Big Bang.
