Why Dope To Enhance Performance In Sports? Asks Saket

Drugs aren’t limited to those with addictions. Athletes take illegal substances to enhance their performance, commonly referred as ‘doping’. While most stimulants are performance-enhancing, they do have numerous health risks and are banned by sports’ governing bodies. Most athletes end up taking performance enhancing drugs to win a medal or make a mark in the sports team. In the past few years, several athletes have come in the doping shadow. While most known athletes have often been tested positive for drugs, there are many instances which remain unreported. Often, speculations arise when an athlete is doing exceptionally well in their sport. Most often, such speculations are true.

This has led to the rise in questioning the sportsmanship of most athletes. Sports provides a major form of entertainment to people. This entertainment often gets buried in the doping scandals. Achievement gets overshadowed by scandal. Sportsmen should be recognised more by their work and play and not by what they are consuming and what not. The sportsmen should just focus on playing and working hard to achieve glory.

They should steer away from any kind of supplements or medicines that could pose risk to their career. Why use drugs to enhance performance when the same can be done by practice?

It is a natural human tendency to achieve something from a shorter path but risky path rather than seeking for a long but safer path. Similarly without putting in much efforts, some sportsmen(in fact they should not be called sportsmen) prefer the the shorter route. Doping is similar to cheating in an examination, if you are caught then you have to face the consequences. Contrasting a school exam doping has more adverse cconsequencs which usually ruins the career of the person involved.

I too feel that a person should exhibit his hardwork and capabilities without having a stain on it. I think all of us enjoy the results of what hardwork we put in only after being honest with ourselves.

Atheletes or any person likes to do everything in a manner of shortcut. It doesn''t matter it is the safe way or the dangerous one and if you take drugs as just a medicine to reduce tension, you get used to it and you can''t stop taking it. And as a result, you will eat illegal things everyday without thinking. It''s the same with athletes, the only difference is that they take it to enhance performance.
