TS Chaitanya: Should Popular Books Be Made Into Movies?

There are lots of books that have been made into movies.  While this trend is already proven and tested in Hollywood, even Bollywood is now embracing it. While I do not have a problem with books being made into movies, I do have problems with great books being made is not-so-good-movies.  Every famous book should not be built into a film.  This ends up messing up the essence and story of the book. For example, Harry Potter, Percy Jackson and Eragon were better off as books. What’s you take on it?

Your opinion is absolutely correct. There is no need for every bestselling book to be turned into a film. Filmmakers of such movies do this so that the audience can visualise the events of the book well. All book adapted movies are not up to the mark. Most Hollywood film adaptations are amazing. Let''s see if Bollywood is successful in its new endeavour.

Nice question! I feel that popular books should be made into movies as we get to visualize the whole book in a movie. There are many popular books that have been turned into movies like 2 States, Harry Potter, Hunger Games and the upcoming movie based on Chetan Bhagat''s novel ''Half Girlfriend''.

I feel that our imagination is way far from what these films create and choose as characters.Famous books can never be made into great films because the real essence of the book is enjoyed while reading only.In the upcoming movie Half Girlfriend too,I don''t feel that Shraddha and Arjun have done justice to the role of Riya Somani and Madhav Jha.So,I feels good books need not be made into movies. After all, there has never been shortage of stories for films neither in Bollywood nor in Hollywood.

Well, books cast their spell in a different way as compared to movies. Though visualizing your favorite characters sounds amazing, but books have their own charm. I feel that there is no such need to turn every best-seller into a movie. Many a times, the cast of the movie is disappointing for a voracious reader. Also, many movies can''t cope up with the expectations made up by the mind of the reader.

I think this question depends on the quality of the movie made.If the movie is able to visually the book without reducing its efficiency then it would be a feast to our eyes to see the events actually happening and it would emotionally connect us with the characters. But sometimes the movie characters don''t match with the ones imagined by us and it may not satisfy our expectation. We can''t also deny the fact that the true essence of the book is enjoyed while reading.

I agree with your point of view. I watched 2 States long time back but recently I read the book. So what I felt was it was more fun to read the book rather than watching the movie.

This is not a very serious issue. And also it is not wrong to make movies on popular books. From this people will learn more about literature.Only one thing to remember is that cultural and religious books also be chosen to make movies so that people will learn more about their tradition.

Popular books in the movie form is the good idea this can make some good change and that to this book is very good to read .

I very much agree with your thoughts. All famous books shouldn''t be made into movies as sometimes children now days don''t insist on reading the book because there is already a movie form of it.

I do not agree with this opinion because normally books are read by only handful of readers. If popular books are made into movies that story will atleast reach to a larger mass of audience and they can feel its essence. Not all are same. so if even few liked that movie i am sure that they will read that book and make book-reading a habit.

yes popular books should be made into movies..

Well according to me all the best seller books should be converted into movies so that the person who are not getting time to read the book they can go to watch movie. There are too many books which are converted into movies like ''2 States'' by Chetan Bhagat or ''Charlie and the chocolate factory'' by Roald Dhal etc.

Deepti hegde CLARENCE PUBLIC SCHOOL

most people wish that popular books should be converted into movies so that they can visualise the story. However i think, not all popular books should be turned into movies. Books enhance imagination and give a wider vision to the story.every mind has a different interpretation to the story. Most books contain so much content that it is difficult to put all of it into a movie hence the movie loses some content from the book. This spoils the original story.

This is the brilliant way to encourage youth and adult towards reading and watching movies. As because we are already aware about the ''Harry Potter'' and the ''Twilight'' series which encouraged people to read the books as well as watching movies which keep them spellbound to the charm of reading which seems to be beneficial for them in several ways, like you know increasing vocabulary, live longer, increasing concentration power etc.

Yes, books should be made into movies because some people don''t read books but instead they watch movies and if they like movie then they had a sort of feeling to read the book also...
