Shweta Ullala: Should Schools Focus More On Sports?

Every school wants their children to excel at studies. However, as the saying goes: All play and no work makes Jack a dull boy. Students are not receiving enough exercise as they are cooped up in their classrooms the whole day. This leads to obesity among young children. If schools encourage sports and other activities, the future generation will be fit and healthy. Shouldn't schools do so to witness a better tomorrow?

Of course, it can be agreed that academics are important, but ‘all work and no play’ does really make Jack a dull boy. Whether for life-skills, or recreation, or fitness, a good sports curriculum is of utmost significance in the life of a student.

Excess of everything is bad, be it academics or sports. We should focus on studies but not at the cost of sports as being physically active is as necessary as being good academically.

Yeah! They should! Forcing us only in studies doesn''t add up to our health. Physical activities are equally, no, more than studies it''s important.

My opinion is parents and teachers should focus on sports equally as studies. Studies should not give them pressure. Especially when a girl is interested in sports, so parents should focus on her for sports, not much on studies. It is good to studies but not always inside the room.

My opinion on this matter is that schools should not only encourage students to excel in studies but also be good in sports. Indian students who are pursuing sports as a profession are not getting the encouragement they need .When I was in 7th standard a very good tennis player/classmate was discouraged and was told to study harder just because he didn''t get good marks.IN TODAY''S WORLDS HOW CAN WE EXPECT STUDENTS TO BE GOOD AT BOTH STUDIES AND SPORTS ,ONLY BARBIES CAN DO THAT .

Divyansh Saxena Sir padampat singhania education centre

School pressure as well as hunger of success is making the students so much envolve in the text books or BASICS that their mind is blocked for their ideas . Schools should be concerned about this and sports can be a useful remedy.

Schools are actually meant for giving knowledge through academics .But all can''t achieve in academics , so schools should also concentrate on sports as well as co-curricular activities too.................

I agree, sports is equally important in a student''s life. it helps us unwind. Sports is especially needed in today''s rather sedentary lifestyle. In fact, studies have shown that sports help improve concentration.

Everything goes well with a balance. If there is a balance between the two, problem will be tackled. But, at the same time studies cannot be neglected.

Yes i certainly believe that schools must focus on sports along with studies as a person not good in studies might excel in sports like no other .Making a child an overall challenge is of utmost importance

Yes,sports is one of the major subject (we can call it) because it makes the child more active mentally and physically. The obesity rate in schools have increased than before and introducing games in school will help in reducing this problem. From sports,a child learns so many things in real than from the textbooks.
