Shruti: Why Is Everyone Obsessed With Good Looks?

As a high school student, I fail to understand the craze among boys to get six-pack abs and a size zero figure among girls. Everyone seems to be obsessed with their height, weight, figure and outward appearance. This has not only created stress among youth but has affected their health. Being health conscious is perfectly acceptable but taking anything too far is not. In fact, maintaining a healthy lifestyle is essential if you want to succeed in this competitive world and also to deal with health problems. This can be done by replacing junk food with vegetables, fruits, nutritious food and regular exercise. However, teenagers tend to stop eating to get slim, which means interfering with the body’s mechanism. As a result, the number of cases related to eating disorder cases is on the rise, especially among girls. The internet is chock-a-block with tips on how to get slim (read thin) New medicines are being advertised every day. Magazines and movies — by hiring only tall and thin models and muscular men — are influencing the minds of youth. They are forgetting about the thin line between real and reel life. We must remember that there is much more to us than just our physical appearance and each one of us is unique and beautiful in our own way.

Well said Shruti.

When in school, everybody wants to look their best. They think if they won''t look good nobody will make friends with them or make fun of them in that matter. What they need to understand is that looks doesn''t matter, it is the nature that matters. People will remember you for your good nature rather than for your looks.

it is because all they care about is how they look and nothing else.

Vishakha Bhalla BOSCO SR.SEC.SCHOOL( PASCHIM VIHAR)

Yes! I agree to get slim you should take nutritious food and carry out physical activities as do yoga and jogging. I would prefer that do not follow celebrity and media images, take a healthy ans beautiful lifestyle

Deepalya Jha Stepping Stones Senior Secondary School

True, this craze is spread over to the minds of almost all the young girls and boys. From my point of view, one reason can be, yes, to be healthy and fit to fight all difficult challenges in their lives. Another reason can be- not to get bullied and body shamed. There are plenty of bullies present everywhere in our lives and most people become their pray. And they usually get bullied because of their figure, in which they might have failed to have six pack abs or a zero size figure.

Brenda Marshal PADUA HIGH SCHOOL-MANKHURD

Yes that''s really true.. Everyone is really obsessed about good looks.. Even we.... Even I..

Archisha Ghosh VIDYA VALLEY

It gets really irritating to see people putting lip balm at school, finishing half the bottle of deodorant. Everybody thinks that only looking good will cover up their status bar, they be more popular and people will be attracted towards them. But I do not agree with this fact. People do not get it that being polite and kind is also a beauty in them which can actually help you. Being funny helps getting people attracted to you and talk to you. It is the mindset that we must change

MANAS KUMAR BAL BHARTI PUBLIC SCHOOL (PITAM PUR

Yes Shruti outer looks and our physique do not decide our character and makes look good. It is the inner beauty of our heart and personality which makes us look good. This is just a common psychological misconception which today''s youth should not develop.

C.Prasanna Amalorpavam Higher Secondary School - Puducherry

You have asked a good question.

gandwaid sai sri jahnavi P OBUL REDDY PUBLIC SCHOOL

haha I also had the same question in my mind since long.... What would you get being soooo slim. Where is this rule stated that a girl should compulsory have perfect shape and should be slim with perfect height and boys should have abs and muscles all around on their body?????. It is so weird that looking pretty or handsome makes our life perfect....

Sachika Lala BGS National Public School

Teens are seriously crazy about how good they look. They just want to compare themselves with other kids of their age and prove that they are the best. Well, that is fine (because that sometimes gives you self-confidence) .But that should not mean that we start dieting or skipping meals. We must realize that to look good means to look healthy and that means that we must do everything regularly. We should also realize that we may have a few strengths, which are other people''s weaknesses.

Himanshi Dhawan Saffron Public School

Very true! Today, everyone adolescent wants to look good as they believe on the fact "the first impression is the last impression". But anything in excess is harmful. Pay attention to your health but don''t get too obsessed with it.

V.Ananya D.A.V. Public School

Yeah . Skipping breakfast is the first thing they do . They don''t realize how grave the consequences can be . But they will , when they grow old and it will be too late .

I like this article. What I feel is that it is not about how you look from outside but it is about what you are from inside.

Though looks matter but it is the nature of a person which decides his/her fate.

Janusia Bethel Mat Hr Sec School

It is obviously corect,we are in the century where aunties try to be good look. Then why not the students? But beauty will not come along with our life.Looks can be deceptive.

Sarath Kumar RM Bethel Mat Hr Sec School

That''s a good point. Nowadays youngsters are very much concerned about their appearance rather than their health. In long run this can create a serious impact on health conditions.

Aishwarya Iyer Deens Academy

Point to ponder on. What you say is true. It is nice and always better to look good, but people shouldn''t take that as the main aim of life. Apart from looking good, you need to have a good character and be pleasant to talk too.

Kashish Verma Bharti Public School Swasthya Vihar

well said.Inner beauty which is eternal, matters more than the short lived outer beauty.

KAVYASRI R M Bethel Mat Hr Sec School

Yes.Perfectly right.Among the teenagers group, appearances matters a lot.But this attitude needs to be changed.According to the popular saying "appearances are deceptive", one needs to see the heart and good nature of the person than their looks.Being modest is appreciable than being modern

Hafsa Malwat F D SCHOOL

Every wants to be good looking in the Society. But only from outside, not from inside!!!

JIYA TOMAR B G S NATIONAL PUBLIC SCHOOL

I would say that this is absolutely veracious because today all teenagers and the youth has become very health-conscious and concentrate a lot on their physical appearance more than on academics and good nature because of peer pressure, influence from celebs etc.We must not forget that beauty isn''t limited merely to outer looks but what matters is one''s inner qualities and attitude to how one sees his life and its aspects.

SNEGHA.CK Bethel Mat Hr Sec School

it is true that everyone are obsessed with good looks because the world expects that.

S.VIDHYAALAKSHMI SHREE NIKETAN MAT -

Yes. In nowadays students are obese with good looks. Even if they get one small pimple they visit a doc.

Ambuja Rani Ryan International School

You should remain healthy and good-natured. You can also take good care of your skin but should not be obsessed with the same. Everything is good until it becomes a obsession. Skipping eating and following models is no way to create impression. You must have a pure heart however you look.

Pragya RUKMINI DEVI PUB. SCHOOL(PITAMPURA)

Excess of everything is bad. We should take care about our health rather than our looks.

if you don''t look good, your classmates and friends start to make fun of you. most children are afraid that they will be laughed upon so they try to become ''PERFECT''.

I also feel the same, inner personality is much important than the outer Beauty.

many of us are really concerned about what other people think of our appearance....... we dont actually care about our health.... we tend to loose our health in being more concerned about what others think and of our appearance...

we need not look good to be admired by other people....rather...we could make their heads turn by just showing our talents and they will definitely by admired by our beautiful inner heart....
