Sachin Motwani Asks Is Educational Migration Justified?
Pic for representation purpose only

It is found that students from various parts of the country migrate to big cities  like Kota for tuition of competitive exams leaving their homes, parents and family behind.

Is it justified for children to leave their homes at a very tender age?  In pursuit of a great educational institution, are they not losing out on their childhood? What about their emotional well being? Who is their to ask them what is going on in their minds?

TEAM NIE Says

According to the 2007 World Development Report, the focus on children and migration has been neglected in the past. It is still a fairly new research area that will be developed in the close future. Children are the most vulnerable to risk when being left behind by one or both parents, migrating with the family or alone.

The well-being of children affects their development into adulthood and thus sending remittances to their home country, acquiring skills that can benefit their home country or host country when chosen to stay.

Migration to another city or a metro for educational purposes is fine. But parents could consider the following before making a decision

  1. Are you sure this change is going to be for your good. Back it up with thorough research
  2. Is your ward equipped and prepared to live alone in a city that he/she is not used to? Ask these questions to yourself
  3. Try it out for a couple of weeks before arriving at a final conclusion
  4. Don't back out without giving it a try

Agreed, that there may be risks involved but today ,our first priority is our career . For 10%risk factor, we cannot endanger 90% opportunities -we have to weigh and decide .And perhaps parents can make arrangements for their child''s stay at a close relative''s place .Ultimately, it is the big bad world that we have to face and the undeniable fact is that we can get better education opportunities in big cities, other countries even -it is after all in favour of the nation.

what would be the impact of Indias membership with NSG on the world and India itself ?

According to me students should be allowed to migrate to a different place for his education. There may be risks, but they will learn how to face the world, how to travel in crowded trains. They will become independent if they are away from their family.
