Saanvi: Do We Really Need Friendship Bands?
A Still From ''Harry Potter'' Film

As Friendship Day neared, we saw shops flooded with friendship bands, rings and ribbons. Everyone planned to celebrate the day with their friends, by going out for a movie or for lunch. '#Besties4ever', '#friends' and many such stories flooded Instagram or Snapchat.

But was this really necessary to express your affection for your friends?

Friendship is not a festival. It is an integral part of our lives and we don’t need any reason to express it. Lord Krishna and Sudama didn’t need any day to spend time with each other. Harry and Ron did not tie friendship bands and write each other's name on their arms. But they are still called friends. Why? Because, during their friend's hard times, they were the ones who were selflessly with them, without expecting any thing in return. It is the bond that matters, not the band.

So, why can't we celebrate Friendship Day every day? Life would be so good when you know that there is someone to wipe your tears and make you laugh out loud. So, do we really need a day to love our friends?

For the past two years, I didn''t tie friendship bands, coz I realised that these bands are nothing but trend. And, yes, we don''t need such hashtags and bands to celebrate. Enjoying the essence of friendship is more important.

It is totally your wish. If you want to wear it, you can. But friendship band doesn''t always mean that you have a very close relationship with the person who has given you that band. I have myself seen some people who give a lots of bands and gifts to each other but they are not there for their friends at the right time. I too have friends, to whom I might not have given much gifts and bands but for whom I am always there.

I believe celebrating friendship day by tying bands is just a waste of time as tying bands on someone''s hand doesn''t make them your friend. It is the bond between two people that is more important. Though friendship day gives us an excuse to hang out with our friends.

I don''t think we need friendship band because friendship is that peace which we get from our soul and friendship band acts as evil and may cause harm for that peaceful soul or friendship
