Ritvik Baweja: Will Your Diwali Be Crackers Free?

With the worsening of environmental problems, sustainable development has become the need of the hour. However, if we still burn crackers then we are setting our future on fire. We need to realise that crackers not only have an adverse affect on our surroundings in the form of air pollution but also affect our health and pose threat to the flora and fauna. Last year, many people died due to asthma attacks, several others would die this year too if you promote cracker full Diwali. The choice lies in your hand whether you want your surroundings to be clean and the air you breath to be filtered or you want to live in an environment filled with filth and smog. ON which side are you?

I''m against crackers and always have been. Until I was 7 I used to burst crackers, very less though. But once I started to think on my own, I realised that I should ban crackers for myself and haven''t bursted crackers since the past 6-7 years. Its nice that you brought up this question, especially after the SC order to ban crackers. We surely cant be ignorant and continue bursting crackers, quite ironically, at the cost of our own lives, in a long-term.

Diwali is a festival of light and spending time with our family or relatives. Spending time with family is having more fun than burning crackers. It also causes noise pollution.Pets such as dogs and cats also suffer an account of firecrackers as animal have a fun more sensitive sense of hearing. Nice article Ritvik

I would preferably ask my dad to plan an outing to a peaceful hill station where we can enjoy a pollution free Diwali.

Diwali is the festival of joy and happiness. This includes planning a trip with your friends, spending time with your relatives and having fun with them,Eating delicacies and most importantly NO STUDIES!If by lighting crackers gives you fun,you are on the wrong thought. One cracker causes severe damage to the atmosphere.Noise pollution occurs by lighting fire-crackers which is not good for animals and senior citizens.Ozone layer is deeply affected by lighting crackers

I used to burn crackers when I was about 9 or 10.But,since now I have understood all its disadvantages ,I have stopped burning them. They are nothing else but just like to burn our parents money

Actually people just don''t cause pollution by burning crackers, but also burn their parent''s money. I have never burned crackers in my life. I just use that shotgun which hardly leaves out any smoke. I want a cracker free and environment friendly Diwali in the coming years. Kalam mentioned about eco friendly crackers in his book ''Reignited''. They are just bullshit.

This is a very nice decision. Last year thousands of people in new Delhi were wearing masks around the streets. Anyway a green Diwali is better than a Diwali with a lot of air pollution

I had decided to avoid crackers this Diwali a lot before the Supreme Court commented on the issue. Surely this Diwali will be absolutely cracker free for me. Hope others give up crackers as well.

Being a future enlightened citizen of the country, I feel that it is my moral responsibility to give up burting crackers and pledge for a green Diwali. This is the time when we should stop passing the culpability on others. In this way, I can contribute towards maintaining a harmonious relation with Mother Nature.

Yes I did give up . It disturbs pet animals . In my surroundings there are many birds . So how can I be so inhuman ???? I started giving up crackers at the age of 12 .

Sohamdeep Chakraborty Mitra Institution (Main)

According to me, bursting of crackers is equivalent to put money on fire..... And there is not a statement about bursting of crackers in Diwali in any RELIGIOUS TEXT like PADMA PURANA nad SKANDA PURANA...... So it is better for us to think about NO-CRACKERS DIWALI.......

I hate bursting crackers because it gives out more sound.Diwali is a festival of lighting the lamp and spending time with relatives. I stopped bursting crackers when I was 5 years old

ACCORDING TO MY POINT OF VIEW THIS STEP SHOULD BE TAKEN BY SUPREME COURT EARLIER. JUST FOR OUR PLEASURE WE BURST CRACKER IN THOUSANDS , WOW! WHAT A GOOD JOB WE DO . THE PEOPLE OF 21ST CENTURY TAKE PLEASURE BY HARMING THE ENVIRONMENT, IT SEEMS TO ME A ALIEN IDEA. DEPITE, WE SHOULD HELP POOR AND ALSO CONTRIBUTE WITH THEM TO LIGHT UP A SMALL DIYA IN THERE HOUSE . SO LETS PLEDGE FOR A GREEN AND SAFE DIWALI AND HELP POOR

Arul Gupta DELHI PUBLIC SCHOOL(VASUNDHRA)

I decided to give up crackers for good last year, when after Diwali, lot of smog was present everywhere and due to this people could not breathe, especially those who were having breathing problems like asthma. Even Diwali creates lot of noise pollution due to which elderly people get heart attacks and hearing problems. I have given up bursting crackers so that there would be no smog next time. I pledge to make this Diwali a green Diwali and will do the same for all coming years.
