Priyanshi Questions The Ironies Of Feminism

The entire conversation about feminism is full of ironies.  Recently, when I was moving around in Delhi metro and Delhi Transport buses I noticed a phrase inked on the seats — ‘mahilaao ke liye’. It offended me to some extent. Personally, I do not feel that being a girl I can’t deal with the exertion faced during travelling. In a world where women have proved to be the stalwarts of strength and verve, why are such reservations given to her?  Are women not strong enough to endure the bumps and the turns?

It''s good that women are given respect but that should also be to a limit. They give respect to women but with them they forget the man who is also the same human being as the women is. We should respect women but to a certain limit.

Women in the society have actually proved themselves stronger than the other sex. The media has floated a weakened image of women in the society, so the world is showing too much concern. But women should be treated equal to men. They can face hardships of life with equal courage and firmness. It''s time to give the women a chance to prove themselves.

I completely agree that feminism is full of ironies. However I would just like to clarify one thing. The seats allotted to women are not to provide comfort but to provide safety. Delhi metro is over crowded more often than not. And the separate compartment is made exclusively for women so that men cannot use the crowd as an excuse to brush against women in an inappropriate way.

the reservations given to them are justified because the face of feminism is much beyond what we see

Women are given separate seats and preferences everywhere just because most of the men try to misbehave with women. When the mentality of men change, this situation will change all will be treated equally.
