Priyanshi: Do Most Students Dread Maths?

Why do people dread mathematics? Is it because the quest for ‘x’ is too irksome? Or is it because they are scared of being engulfed by the big crocodile mouth (<, >)?

The fear of maths among students is called arithmophobia. Ignorance of the subject, lack of practice and concentration, low scores in the subject are among the many reasons contributing to anxiety and hopelessness. Our mathematics journey starts as toddlers. Our first companions on this expedition are +, -, x and /. They are the most loyal of all chaperones. Whether it is totalling the price of various articles you bought from the supermarket or distributing pizza slices among children at a birthday party, they always have your back.

Geometry, a branch of mathematics, is the study of shapes. Figures enclosed within lines have structured our lives in an indispensable manner. From our shirt’s button to a cycle’s wheel – everything is a circle. Greeks were the first people to calculate the radius of the earth (which they knew to be circular) using the same methods we are being taught in school. Trigonometry has helped man reach the surface of the moon.

Maths is all about practice. Considering the vast variety of activities mathematics has made easier for us, we must embrace this subject instead of dreading it.

Haha !! Maths is one of the deadliest subjects among the high schooling teens today . My friend says that she hates maths because she feels that its kinda complicated . But actually its not . It might look hard but its not as much as tough as it appears to be . Everything and anything is easy if we like it and show a bit of interest towards it . Its like breaking and decoding the complicated things and I''ve gotta admit it its fun .
