Medha: Is Technology Making Us Lazy?

Let us visualise the scenario in a medieval Bengali household. We would see that from dawn, the homemaker gets busy in preparing food. First, she has to get the chulha ready, which takes a lot of time. She has to continuously work to make the coal catch fire. But this problem isn’t there anymore. Now we have LPG gas stoves. We just need to switch on the burner and the food starts cooking at once.

As a lot of time is saved, we  can afford to be lazy. Again, let us look back to the scenario 200 years ago. How did the people then tolerate the heat during the summer days? They simply used palm leaf fans or a wet cloth to cool their body. Even Akbar the Great, didn’t have an electric fan. But he did have many servants who fanned him all day. Nowadays, we have electric fans and air conditioners, which help us to keep cool and also reduce the strain on our hands. These hands are now occupied with smartphones. Again, when people used to live in the villages, they had to travel a long distance to collect water as there were only a few wells in the village. With water being a necessity, from the wee hours itself, villagers especially women, would go out to collect water from the wells. We now have electric pumps that pumps water into overhead tanks. As this saves a lot of time we can afford to be lazy. It’s true that technology has made our life easier, comfortable and more luxurious, but it has also made us very lazy.

Yes it is .It makes our life easier ,sophisticated and the other things . But it is making us lazy . Everything has a limit and if it is used within the limit it is surely a boon to mankind .

It has to be admitted that machines have made our life easier than it was a few hundred years ago. These days, we are accustomed to the simplicity of using technology, and can not even contemplate what it is to live life without it.

Technology is not making us lazy it already had made us lazy. For example earlier we use to go to restaurant to have some food whereas now we ask for home delivery, earlier we were visiting shops to buy the commodities whereas now we go for online shopping also you can find many examples within the society.

Yes, technology is making us lazy. Yes we have to admit that technology has made our life easier as now we can just sit at our home and explore the whole world with just one click. But on the other hand it has made us lazy as now for buying or for doing even small things we are becoming totally dependent on technology, which will utimately lead to many diseases.

Technology was originally built for help in our day to day life. But in today''s world, everyone is becoming completely dependent on tech. From buying grocery to ordering food, everyone needs the internet.By doing all this work without going anywhere,we are forgetting the importance of physical work.So if used properly, tech can be a blessing but if used too much it becomes one of our biggest curse.
