Hemalatha.G: Should Poetry Not Be In The Syllabus?

Poetry is an art. It melts our heart. Even TOI encourages students to shape their words. Be it Wordsworth's or Shakespeare's or even poems under Hall of fame; it has some magic in it. We get to know about many great poets from our academic books too. The poetry part is something which I enjoy well. But some children hate it as we're forced to memorize it. This creates a big hatered towards poems in the early age itself. But on the other hand it teaches us new style of writing and new methods to express feelings. Instead of adding it in syllabus, schools can adopt different methods to teach poetry to students. It can be mixed with fun. What's your take? Should it be eliminated or it can be continued?

I certainly feel that poetry should be thought to students in a different way so that they can become more interesting .Also students should be encouraged to write poems as it helps increase one''s creativity and also his vocabulary

Souparnika Jayadeep Jayapal Harmony International School , Kharghar

I feel that poetry is the thing which melts out from our hearts. Not all students love poetry as sometimes it becomes difficult for the understanding. But from my point of view I think poetry should be spread among all the students and they should be encouraged to love them as they provide a great source of writing skill.

R.Rithika Reddy JOHNSON GRAMMAR HIGH SCHOOL, ICSE

Poems should be included in syllabus as students can learn English literature in better way and understand or can know the initiative of poem

In my opinion, poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words. Poetry helps us to know each other. It builds resilience in us. It improves critical thinking, verbal skills and memory. Students should definitely be encouraged to write poems and read them. They should test new waters and find themselves in a world of creativity and rhythmical creation of beauty in words....

Poetry should definitely be continued. It was only in the smaller classes that we were asked to quote poetry from memory. But, in middle school and high school, students are understanding the emotions of the poet. A lot of people prefer poetry because the meaning of the poem, when looked into, is heart-warming.

Poetry should be there in our syllabus as it explains to us the thoughts and the ideas that the poems have and it also explains to us the hardwork and dedication the poets have taken in to right the poem. I simply love reading poems. If we read poems, we can also start writing them.

Bharti Sharma Shri Shikshayatan School

It would be wrong to remove Poetry from the syllabus.Poetry is one of those tools which enhance reader''s creativity. It surely helps in bringing out the best from a soul.Poetry certainly has no replacement.

Bhavana Jaison Atomic Energy Central School No 2

Poetry helps me to relax .It gives me a feeling of being pampered by the nature .

Riya Gupta Ryan International School

Poetry should be there in syllabus because literature is all about relaxation and good vocabulary. Poems help us to understand life and its different aspects in a better and more sensitive manner.

Only the smaller kids are asked to memorise and it is for good. I remember how I used to enjoy memorising poems when I was younger, I used to do it without being asked. I still remember R.L. Stevenson''s poem " The world From a Railway Carriage" and whenever I feel gloomy, I repeat those lines to myself

Pradeepaa.L.S VANI VIDYALAYA S.S.S & JR. COLG

And that''s enough to up my spirits . These poems have inspired me to write poems. So poems should not be removed from the curriculum

Aashi Lohia Amrita Vidyalayam -Nesapakkam

True.. It''s just like timekiiler if get bored have a note and create a poem...

Honey lakhani Birlasagar school

I do agree. Poetry is a way which reaches to the door of our heart. In the worst situations, when we do not know which way to go, some meaningful poetry touches our heart and makes us happy!

Koushtubh Roy Lakshmipat Singhania Academy

POETRY should definitely be in the syllabus.

Antara Bose Shri Shikshayatan School

No poetries should never get removed from the serious. Memorizing doesn''t mean hating the subject. One just needs to go deep inside the poem and feel the essence of it.The poetry defines human soul
