Disha: Can You Live Without Technology?

I woke up at 7 am. It was the beautiful Sunday I had waited for during the course of the entire punishing week. As usual, I switched on my phone to view Instagram feeds, YouTube notifications and WhatsApp messages, but they didn’t come on. It was nothing less than a nightmare. I cursed my phone and the world. My beautiful Sunday had got off to a rather ugly start. I got out of bed and as I proceeded to perform my daily chores, I realised that there was no electricity.

Great! Just great! The whole world had crafted a well-executed strategy to ruin my Sunday. My dad, looking at my grumpy face, said, “God! Take a break from all that technology. There are other things in the world that are worth taking interest in, you know.” “Doesn’t matter! what I need is not available anyway,” I retorted.

All I had wanted was a quiet Sunday with my phone and my headphones. I sat down on the sofa absolutely frustrated, staring into empty space. Suddenly, on an impulse, I went to the bookshelf. It felt like a long time since I had read a book. I looked over these small boxes of memories which were covered with dust – I had somehow forgotten about them with the entry of my phone. I picked up one of them and started reading. I soon rediscovered why I used to be so addicted to books. Seeing this, my dad exclaimed “Woah! Look who is reading now.” I didn’t react.

Eventually I got up and dressed. “Where are you going?” mom asked. With a broad smile on my face, I shrugged. “Well…have a nice day!” mom said. It was cloudy. I started to walk towards the bookstore. I had not visited this ‘once upon a time favourite haunt’ in a long time. I went inside and a familiar scent of cosy books greeted me. I was reminded of how I used to save all my pocket money and spend it on these books. It seemed like a very long time ago. I bought four books. After a long time I was spending my money on something worthwhile.

From there, I went to my friend’s house. Earlier, I used to video call or text her. She was pleasantly surprised to see me. We both did nothing but talk and the fact that we didn’t click a single selfie was proof enough that we had a great time and were too busy living in the moment rather than capturing it in our camera.

I walked back home, only to be greeted by my astonished parents who looked at my books as though I had something strange in my hands. “I hope you aren’t sick,” mom commented. I laughed: “No, mom.” I started reading a new book with a cup of hot coffee and it started drizzling. Perfect! The light rain, the book and coffee somehow made me content, happy in a way that I had not been for quite some time. That night, as I went to sleep, I felt good. My Sunday hadn’t been that bad after all.

No, we cannot live without technology because it is an important part of our lives. It gives most of the information for projects, assessments and also gives tips for exams. But it is not a compulsory to use so many social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram...😀

No we can''t, technology is now included in our daily life where ever we go. Human brain has now developed for using some or the other kind of technology without even thinking about it. The best example for it is a simple smartphone, we can''t really be comfortable without our smartphone near us. There are pros with cons of smartphone as we know them, and they are either very useful or very harmful. So the simple answer is that we can''t survive easily without technology.

I think we can afford to live without TECHNOLOGY as the people who lived centuries ago discovered many things without the means of technology. Though TECHNOLOGY makes our lives easier it is not compulsory that we need technology. In today''s world we are highly addicted to TECHNOLOGY.

No, I don''t think we can live without technology as it has become an essential part of everyday life. I feel that we humans have become more dependent on technology in the past few decades.
